Post Remap radial controls to keyboard?
First off, the new version is amazing. The AI in particular has been improved a lot. That said, why can I only remap the basic movement controls? The radial menu is nifty and all, but it's much harder to use in the thick of combat than a simple button press. You can't even develop reflexes for it, since the radial buttons move around depending on what actor you're controlling.

What, you mean the actions menu? It's fine for me. But then I'm using classic keyboard.

What.

How is it hard at all?

The only things you ever need are single button presses away.

Select Actor + Menu + R/L = Weapon switch

Up = Pick up weapon

Down = Drop weapon

Y+U + Menu + Left = Buy Menu

You have a strange definition of "single button press." Unless I'm missing something, any action via the radial requires at least three separate actions -- right click, select option, release right click.

This problem is compounded by the fact that even if you memorize the action sequence for opening the buy menu, trying to use that same sequence while controlling a rocket triggers the self-destruct instead. If you LIKE that, that's cool, I'm not saying it should be removed. I would simply like the ability to map additional keyboard shortcuts, at least in Settings.ini if not in-game.

Frankly, once you remember where reload, switch weapons, and buy menu is, you can perform those actions much faster than you could with buttons. Only right click and mouse movement is needed, reloading would only need a very brief right click and an upward dash on the mouse.. instead of hunting for buttons for every single control.

You need to actually practice with the radial menu (as you have with buttons) before you can write it off as slow.

Shame I lost my gifs.. I had one where I threw a grenade, switched weapons, and reloaded in only 25 frames (50 fps on the GIF).

I'm plenty fast with the radial menu. Guess what? For me it's never going to be faster than pressing 'R' to reload, where my index finger usually rests anyway. I suspect that's true for you too, but that doesn't matter, because I'm not saying the radial menu should be removed, I just want the option of remapping all controls. This doesn't threaten your playing style. If there's already a way of accomplishing this in Settings.ini, I'll gladly shut up.

Also, please address my argument about buttons shifting position on the radial depending on which actor you're using. Currently lightning reflexes are a liability if you switch to piloting ships.

I mean damn, Cortex Command is basically the first WASD game ever that doesn't allow you to press R to reload.

Sorry for blowing up on you, I misunderstood.

Shouldn't be a problem in my eyes, seeing as craft don't need to reload, switch, or drop weapons. I only use the radial menu for the "Stay" command, and that is nowhere near "Scuttle".

An 'R' for reload would be useful for some (especially those just learning), but as for me I'm sticking with the radial menu.

Rewind back 7 or 8 builds though, when R was a hotkey for map reset instead of CTRL + R, that was annoying.

I often open the Buy menu from craft -- for the brain case it's left, which is where craft have "scuttle."

Hmm, a good point. Still, I've still never had that problem. "Scuttle" occupies too much area on the radial menu to be safe, though.
