Even if it wasn't intentional, the above sentence is rather patronising. He was trying to provide suggestions. He may not have known the answers, but at least he cares enough to reply with what he thought COULD be true.
It doesn't matter if he was wrong or not. Those were his SUGGESTIONS. Suggestions, akin to opinions, CANNOT be wrong. In his mind, these could be true. How is it your place to patronise what he thinks?
