DIRT was just the name of the Cortex Command project before it was Cortex Command.

The name was changed from D.I.R.T. due to it being the name of another game, the owner of which threatened to sue.

Data changed it voluntarily after he learned that an Xbox360 game by the name of D.I.R.T was coming out. DIRT on the 360 was, if I remember right, published by EA. EA vs Data = EA wins. Period. Their legal team is large enough to make up a small city.

Data changed the project name himself, to protect himself.

Seeing that screenie of build 13 was scary: that was the first version of Cortex Command I ever played I never knew it when it was DIRT. But yeah, I joined the forums a few weeks before Build 14 of Cortex Command was released, and I thought it was pretty sweet.
I remember my friend showing it to me, and I thought it was crap because he just killed me with the start rocket. Once I got the hang of it at home though...

Best game, I must download that old version.

Seeing from the Dev Log posts, I guess I started playing when Build 8 came out, awww....ummm......I don't remeber how I found this site.

Man, I skimmed through a few of these builds but I still can't figure out what build I came in on. My memory tells me I came in on build 4 because I remember a mod archive for build 3, but that can't be right because build 4 as listed here looks different from what I remember. The only thing I can confirm is that I came in summer of 2007 sometime in May or June and I didn't join the forum until august. If anyone knows what builds were up around that time that would be appreciated. When I get back home I'ma check more of these things until I can figure it out. This has been messing with me for the past few months and I need to make sense of it.

During that time there were builds 13 trough 15. The mod archive would probably be for build 13, so I would bet on build 14.
