Re: I want to add more ram but...
When you say "32-bit" is that reffering to the colour quality? If it is then that is the highest setting for my computer's colour quality, the other setting is 16-bit. Is VRAM virtual ram? Like one of those paging files? How can i tell if i have that or not? And is this compatible with my computer: http://www.offtek.co.uk/product.php?man ... m=GoogleDF ? (the 1gb ram one)

lazyfaith wrote: When you say "32-bit" is that reffering to the colour quality? Is VRAM virtual ram? 32-bit in this case refers to the CPU architecture and OS version. You can run a 64- or 32-bit OS on a 64-bit processor, which most CPUs are nowadays. In your case, your Sempron may not be the 64-bit variety; it varies between Semprons. But because such little benefit is derived from a 64-bit OS for 99% of users, it's not worth using. VRAM is video RAM, for your graphics card. With a computer that old, chances are you only have 32 or 64 MB of VRAM. But don't worry about it, 1 GB of RAM is a good upgrade for what you have, because there's no way you're going to hit the 4 GB address space limit. If you were to go with 2-3 GB, you'd be better off building a new computer because everything else would be a serious bottleneck--any kind of performance app that might use that much RAM is going to be slowed by the rest of your system.

Re: I want to add more ram but...
I probably will go with just adding 1GB then. Is building a computer hard? Bearing in mind i have never even looked under the cover of one before and have no idea everything it needs to work.

Can you download http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php and in the "about" tab theres a html dump button, click on it and save the .htm file to were ever you would like to. Then zip/rar the file and upload it so i can see what else your system has. If ram will work, or you need to look into other things.

Re: I want to add more ram but...
In regards to asking if you could build your own computer...I'm sorry to say this but it would be fatal, you need to know quiet a bit about computers before you buy each individual part, and put them together yourself. You'd be better off having someone on the forums build one for you within your price range--I wouldn't trust any 'professional' considering they would try to rip you off and take advantage of your lack of computer knowledge. Although, once you got all the parts you would have to have a 'professional' put them all together...for a fee. I would suggest some people, although I don't know any places corresponding to where you live.

Re: I want to add more ram but...
If i was to ask somebody on this forum to build it for me i can see a few problems with that: 1. They wouldn't want to do it because i can't really pay them. 2. Atm, my price range is extremely small (£50) as i was only expecting to have to buy ram. 3. How would i get the computer from them without giving out my address?
P.S. Where's Wizard James? Can he look at the cpuz.rar i uploaded like he asked please.

I'd build it and ship it to you for free, minus shipping cost. Not like I'm gonna come to your house and murder you. Seriously, address isn't a big deal. My address is 144 SW Garden Court, Lake City, Florida. raep me plz pz.

Re: I want to add more ram but...
Build it and ship it for free as in you would pay for all the parts? I would but my mum would be incredibly angry and i would be grouned for months and probably not alloud on a computer for a year. When my brother but his mobile number in his msn name she banned him from computer for a month, even though only his friends could see it.

Re: I want to add more ram but...
im pretty sure he meant more along the lines of you pay total cost, theres just no extra costs. also get the computer delivered to your friends house. then pretend nothing happened to your other one. if you got really exited you could even send Orph your case so she wouldnt possibly notice the change. but you dont have >$1k

My computer cost roughly 800 bucks minus OS. And it's Ophanim, not Orphanim

sorry about the name thing. anyway, take your computer to any computer shop and ask for a GB of RAM. theyll give you the right kind, and definitely wont charge more than 50 quid, god.
