Post Finally some progress?
Just wanted to comment on the fact that there is finally some progress, after 6 months that I purchase CC they have finally started making the campaign... I might sound like an impatient guy but I thought the progress would have possibly been quicker (please don't Flame me and say - oh well why don't you do it yourself then) - I'm very happy about the fact that it is coming along nicely and wondering if there might be a sort of 'Test campaign' in the near future, you know... possibly the first 3 levels for all us registered users.

1 more thing, I think it is a very bad thing about there not ever going to be a WAN/LAN option on CC, in fact I think that is the biggest possible mistake ever to be made in the entire history of CC and I seriously hope that DATA will consider changing his mind over this (as I cant afford to pay him a million $'s)

I'll put it to a vote anyways even though it probably wont make a diffrence - I'll run the poll for a week.

Keep up the good work DATA Realms! :-)

Data has confirmed that there will be at least one new campaign mission in the new build. B21. Which is coming out within the next week or so.

This is just one thing Data told us.
I can guarentee you there will be more things.

It's almost like that one time when B20 was released and Data added rocket gibs, when we least expected it.

Online play is not PHYSICALLY possible. There are just too many physic objects.

No you can't. CC uses very precise physics, that can't be sent quick enough through the internet.

Yeah, probably we would need that swedish prototype 40gbps internet for CC to run on multiplayer. x )

ONLINE PLAY WILL NOT COME.
EVER.

You cann't keep track of all the physics going on with two people.
You just can't.

If Mario Party desyncs on my 7mbps connection, CC would have several different kind of fits at once every few milliseconds.

Ok, first off, lemme tell you something. An RTS is ridiculously easy to keep track of all the units and bullets on a computer (WH40K: DoW: Soulstorm being a 3d realistic RTS). The difficulty shifts up a bit when you make it netplay-compatible, but it's still well within the limits of convenient. In fact, I believe the genre RTS was the first game played over the internet, being Chess.
Now here's what kind of information we deal with in CC and how easy it is to transmit over teh interwebs:
1. Player input, mouseclicks and whatnot: Simple. And there's only one every half a second or so (not always the same rate, so on average.) So perhaps one keycode every half second to be sent. 2 numbers per second.
2. Object/attachment position/wounds, where actor pieces are: Simple, there's really only a few values for each piece, X, Y, rotation, and damage values. But, there's quite a few on the map at once, perhaps a hundred or two. That's like 4 numbers that have to be updated for a hundred objects every frame. 30 fps is considered the standard "good speed" for a game to run at. 4 x 30 x 100 is a rather large number, and you have to send probably 32 bits for each number (not a network person).
3. PIXEL PHYSICS CALCULATIONS... Simple in theory, sure. After all, it's just a pixel. All it does is move according to a velocity by changing x/y every frame, then comes to rest when on the ground and velocity is close to 0. So, about 4 numbers per pixel too. Now, since CC is such and incredibly detailed game and every pixel is both destructible and movable, all active pixels have those 4 numbers to be updated every frame. How many pixels are there active in a typical CC match every frame? I'd say a low bid for the average is about 5000. And that's without mods. So again, 4 x 30 x 200 numbers per second. Add that to out current running total ( 2 + ( 4 x 30 x 100 ) + ( 4 x 30 x 5000 )) and you get 612002 numbers per second. Now I don't know how Data handles these numbers(bittage wise), but I'll take a safe bet and say about half are 16, the other have a split between 8 and 32. So let's do that. ( 306001 x 16 ) + ( 153001 x 8 ) + ( 153000 x 32 ) = 11016024 bps. That's a lot. Without changing that into packets to be transmitted over teh interwebs, thats 10mbps, or about 30% more than my connection can handle, and I have the fastest connection my cable company offers.
Bah, it's almost a waste to repeat this argument...
