   |   Re: Dwarf FortressNote, my above post is just a theory. Toady said something about that in the dev log.
However he also said that this does not affect fortress mode. Goblins will still seige, elves and humans will trade.
 Unless you edit the raws.

 Update on said situation:

Goblins almost always ally with dwarves and the humans almost always attack the elves.

The elves attack humans because humans chop wood and mistreat animals, then the elves eat the dead because they believe it is nature's wish (like animals do it all the time). Humans don't like this so they declare war on the elves back.
Meanwhile the Dwarves and Goblins meet in the mountains and have a long religious discussion. They figure out that they both love lava and mountain gods, and thus form an alliance , usually attacking the humans as well, and sometimes the elves.

All of this is apparently not a bug.
But later Toady is going to try and add more variation.

Also unless you embark upon a goblin fortress they will still siege you.

   |   Re: Dwarf FortressAnother reason towers might be allies is if the humans/elves/dwarves/carp siezed it during worldgen and it changed sides.

   |   Re: Dwarf FortressHuh, I guess something is now broken.
There's nothing about this on the DF forums, so I suppose Toady will fail to notice.

I guess we'll just have to learn to live with it.

Edit: And now someone made a topic about it.

In adventure mode? Not sure, but you start with whatever your skill is highest in.

   |   Re: Dwarf FortressSo when can I expect the next fun build without any major bugs or anything in it? Fortress mode only, of course.
