The problem is that he blatantly insulted the mod before even downloading it, and then, in the face of contrary opinions, changed his mind because he did not want to get flamed himself.

ehh, what he did isn't great, but if you ask me the problem here is simply that he said something, without downloading.

How can you really truly make any for of critique or judgment before you even try? The problem i see is that the people who start hooting about a mod before they play it are just as guilty as the people who flame a mod before they play it. Both are making unsound judgments.

Personally i don't blame someone for not wanting to be flamed...
annnd i don't blame someone for changing their mind based on evidence to the contrary.
In fact i think the only time people are REALLY at fault is when they do something that they would not want have happen to them. unspoken hypocrites you might say.

or maybe i've misinterpreted your post? Did you mean to say that because a number of people contradicted him, he changed his opinion rather then stand up for it?

He posted negative comments without having even downloaded the mod.

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe we have just found our cause of Grif losing his modship.

Also I think that if someone doesn't think a mod looks interesting, then he may not download it, furthermore, they can criticise it, if for example, they believe the mod has bad sprites, and make this judgement based opon the pictures of said mod, but they may not say "this mod sucks!" or "I hate this mod" without testing it first.

Actually the reason I was demodded is because I was (quoth our resident speech-impaired administrator) "fighting with Daman" despite the fight being in Mod Chat, already OVER by the time he saw it, and also not an impact on my ability to moderate whatsoever.

I do however think you qualify for the "totally missed the sarcasm" award.

I bitched and whined at exalion till he made that post.

It turns out that wasn't even the last opinion he provided prior to actually testing that mod.
