   |   Re: Dwarf FortressI'd use them to make more metal (I don't have sand so no glass) but my single wood burner is making charcoal at the same rate as my woodcutters can cut down the trees and take it back into the fortress, probably because the wood is also being used to make infinite barrels and bins.
I really wish I'd embarked on lava >_>

*cough*. I didn't think there was anything worthwhile in this thread until now. If all these people are ever gone through, stick me in. And if you find lava anywhere, you should make a lava moat around the castle. Especially because you have that much bauxite. Make a lava fountain . Does lava generate mist?

   |   Re: Dwarf FortressLava fountains have no benefit other than coolness and the fact that you can place things at the bottom and melt them.
This is more convenient than throwing them off a cliff into the lava because it's harder to throw occupied cages off of said cliff.

   |   Re: Dwarf FortressWe better have ♥♥♥♥ magma, I see not obsidian anywhere, but I do see granite. And about a million other stones.
Don't diamonds require volcanic avtivity? There's a bunch of the stone that holds them around.

The real problem is that we are over 50 z-levels from the bottom, there are only 17 or so above us, actually.

I am making a huge ♥♥♥♥ spiral staircase to the ledge where a ton of dead trees are, past that it's another 11 or so levels until we hit another ledge with trees.

The ♥♥♥♥ merchant traders had better not come in from the northeast. We will not reach that area for like five years.

   |   Re: Dwarf FortressWhy did you start your fort so far up? There's no river or tree-area lower down?

And I wonder if magma mist is as good as normal mist. Or if it sort of kills everyone.

   |   Re: Dwarf FortressIt probably injures them.

The only living things near the brook are troglodytes, even on the lower area where it widens out it's just Slate.

The only trees on this map are dead, and for some reason our dearves decided to start at the TOP OF THE MAP.

You guys technically COULD try to make a blitz downward, abandon what I have made(There is a lever to lock the only door to the inside, if you feel the need to shut it off.) and make a new fort area down a ways. If you chose that path, you should be aware that we only have two picks.

On the other hand, we are actually gaining alcohol now. And maybe food, I don't know about that yet.

   |   Re: Dwarf FortressI said there was no advantage, not no mist.Magma mist does not make people happy.

Also diamonds are pretty much everywhere.
If you see fire snake vermin, that's one way to know you have lava.

How do you know it does not make people happy? From what I've seen of you, I doubt you could handle making a normal water pump let alone a magma pump. By the way-- http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Magma_mist Judging from the lack of information, I'm going to have to try making a lavafall.

   |   Re: Dwarf FortressBy the way, had I gone all the way down and started near the trees(which would have also required making a huge waterfall to get water over to us), we would have been pretty far from the dwarven caravan, which enters on the top level, to the south.
Trying to get enough stone crafts to buy them out, or at least get some supplies.

   |   Re: Dwarf Fortress21GP wrote: daman you're so confrontational and edgyThanks but usually dick-sucking is handled via PMs. Alenth, I am pretty sure the caravan starts at the easiest route to your trade depot. So uh, it wouldn't start up there if your fort was all the way down there.
