 Discussion: best RTS game. Go.
I propose Starcraft. The combination of balance and simplicity makes it an absolute classic.
Some good runner ups that I've found are Company of Heroes and perhaps Supreme commander. But supreme commander is missing that... "in the action" feeling.
Also, I have cash to spend. Ya, you know where this is going.

Re: Discussion: best RTS game. I personally liked Warcraft III with the Frozen Throne expansion.
A few others I like:
Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars (PC, 360)
Universe at War (PC, 360)
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War (PC)
The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth I and II (PC, 360).

Usually you just build stuff, and then build guys to kill the other players stuff and guys.

Re: Discussion: best RTS game. I'm really loving Company of Heroes but Starcraft 2 will take it's place I'm reckoning. Dawn of War 2 looks amazing too.
But all in all Starcraft is probably my favorite.

AoE II is probably the best. AoE III is underrated. SupCom gets ridiculously cool when you zoom out all the way and you just see radar. The C&C III is great. C&C Generals was pretty cool too.
