Well then.

I'm wrong, but it's still probably over his head and unnecessary.

There's not much point in bothering to get DX10 if, you know, you can just get Vista and be done with it.

Also, if I am still not ill-informed, DX10 is designed to thrive on multi-core processors, whereas DX9 applications aren't as... I guess the best term would be 'compatible'. Not to say it doesn't work, but it doesn't use multi-core processors to the best of its potential.

If you end up getting something like a quad core processor, and if I am still correct, Vista would bring out the full potential of the cores.

No games have quad core as of yet iirc. If I remember my ♥♥♥♥ correctly, games are maxed at two atm. Which is why I'm waiting for a year or so to get a quad.

Should I get a quad-core, or is that more then I'll need?

Get a quad core now, and you'll find few things use it's multi threading capability and it'll be obsolete by the time things do use it.

Buy a decent dual core now, and perhaps upgrade to a quad core at a later date.

The list should be fine.

Alright, thanks a lot for all the help, hope it wasn't too much of a pain. If anything else comes to my mind I'll ask, but as of right now I can't think of anything.

Another thing I thought of that you didnt: Operating system. I'm gonna suggest XP for now, wait until Vista has had most of it's bugs worked out to buy it. I'm waiting for SP2.

I actually did ask a page or two back. I think Grif said that Direct X 10 won't work on it, but Trouser posted links for the download on XP.

I would want XP then... okay. Would that add much to the cost?

... Around 150. If the computer you're on is using XP an you don't plan on using it anymore you could take it's XP key.
