Awww, FRAP.
Oh right. "Hi", etc.
Now to the important stuff! A friend of mine told me about CC a few days ago, so I download the demo, and I'm all "Woo, looks fun! Once I'm not bankrupt, I'll have to buy the full version!" So I decide to join the forums to hang out with other, more experienced, CC players, and I decide that I'd like to contribute a GIF or two, but alas! Fraps refuses to record anything.
I've searched the older topics regarding this issue, and older they are. I haven't read any recent complaints about Fraps not recording, so I worry that this might be an isolated problem that lacks an explanation.
I shall provide details:
I have tried recording: - At full size/half size - Windowed mode/fullscreen mode - With/without sound - 25, 30, and more fps - 640x480, 800x600 - On my C drive, on my D drive - True colour mode* - With/without a cursor - With the FPS counter, which doesn't show, set to each of the 4 corners, and also disabled - With several capture hotkeys, including but not limited to: F8, F9, F10, p
Tried restarting for the first time in a few weeks, and no such luck. I'm not on Vista, or a Mac, just XP.
* I cannot run CC outside of true colour mode. It crashes when I start it if I set the option to 0 in the settings.ini.
Things worthy of note: - I am running the latest version of Fraps (2.94), which I installed approximately 24 minutes ago. Prior to this, any recording attempt would result in Fraps crashing immediately after I pressed my record button for the second time. - Fraps is working fine for other software, windowed or not. - When I press the record button, the audio hiccups in CC, so there is some detection of an attempt to record, but no result. - Taking a screenshot with Fraps also doesn't work in CC.
My hypothesis regarding this is that, since there don't appear to be many recent videos of CC on Youtube, or much mention of brand new videos at all, something happened in one of the newer builds of CC, perhaps graphically or involving input, which is crippling the hotkey ability of Fraps, or simply the recording ability.
My questions, then, are: "Are there any suggestions I haven't tried yet? Does Fraps still function properly for someone here? Why does disabling true colour mode crash CC?"
Any and all answers will be appreciated, and high fives are pre-emptively offered to anybody who can help me.
Edit: Ahh, first impressions.. Posting in the wrong spot probably wasn't such a good idea. I shall accept any flogging that may be in order without complaint.

Re: Awww, FRAP.
Yeah I know, CC hates recording software.
Current GIFs are recorded by holding down the printscreen key. The frames are then saved as "testdumpxxx" (000 - 999) to the Cortex Command folder, which you can compile in an animation program.
Be sure to delete the testdumps when you are done making the animation with them, CC won't record over testdump999 (The 1,000th frame).

Just to add on:
An in-game recording tool was promised by Data in upcoming builds.
For now though, you'll have to deal with using both hands to control the actor while holding down the printscreen button with your tongue. Bit of a toughy to explain to family and friends that walk in on a recording.

Or you could use AnimGet, works pretty well for me.

Heh, you guys are really helpful. I think I'll enjoy my stay here. I'm off to help a friend with their car, but when I return, I shall provide details on the functionality of WebCamMax's recording ability.

For recording, you might want to consider slowing down gametime using the 1 and 2 buttons, so lag's effect is less noticeable.
I also recommend animget, although after you're done, it takes a rather long time to process all the frames.

Re: Awww, FRAP.
Could one of the mods or someone answer this? Why exactly is recording a problem on cortex command? Does it have to do with the program, or the graphics? I have tried making videos, and they dont come out too bad, but with bad quality.

Re: Awww, FRAP.
Why would the mods know?
Anyways, some programs have a problem with it because it has such a small resolution, or because it's just not fullscreen.
Bad quality is the nature of nearly all screen recorders. Good quality means MASSIVE filesize, whereas with bad you just have LARGE filesizes.
