I'd probably toss in another GB of RAM, 2x1GB for dual-channel. Looks like a huge purchase though.

Edit: looks like I can't read. :P

Looks like you're saving over a grand by building it yourself, which is nice. I'd probably put the system itself as a 8.5, with room for improvement being more RAM and one of the new Intel quad-cores coming out. I wish I had that kind of money, hah.

/me goes back to working on a 3 GHz Pentium 4 HT laptop with < 512 MBs RAM, a Radeon Mobility 9150, and 60 GBs of HDD space

Why not have 2TB of storage?

RAID controllers are cheap (and yes Grif, you should get a RAID controller if you're using only four drives. HDD failure would cost you a quarter of your capacity), 500 GB hard drives are down to 100.00 USD on sale, and you can run an entire operating system off of each drive if you so choose (which is what I would do).

The only things I would change is this:

Get a TV tuner card. That way you can use your obscene 28" widescreen monitor for television as well. No sense in having two screens where one will suffice. Also, TV tuners are the cheapz @ < 100 dollars. Probably under 75.

If you're going to spend $200 on a stereo (or at least [i]spend money on a stereo[i]), dont waste your money on Logitech speakers. Go Bose or Koss for crying out loud.

Finally, why go with an AMD chipset and an Nvidia card? If you're going to pick an AMD chipset, get an AMD-derivative card (read: ATi). Graphics cards and CPUs are really meant to be paired: AMD with ATI or Intel with Nvidia. Maybe not so much Intel + Nvidia, but if you buy one AMD product, you might as well buy the other AMD product.

Where the hell are you going to get three grand?

Technically, I could have up to 3 tb, the case I picked has 6 internal drive slots. But, yeah, why not? I can download literally dozens of games, and the entire Vista operating system is a drop in the bucket.

I had already planned on getting a RAID controller, although I'm not sure if I'll partition it.

I'm also thinking of getting an HDTV tuner.

Hah, the stereo is minor, I already have a good one, plus Newegg didn't have a good selection.

Blame Cinos, he picked the motherboard, GFX card, and RAM.

Hehe, the Wacom is a nice touch. Those things are awesome. But really, I have 600GB in 2 300GB drives. One of them is partitioned with XP and the other is Vista. I pretty much never use the XP drive anymore, and download games almost daily. And that drive is only about half full. I'll probably get rid of XP soon, so I can use all of the other harddrive, I see no practical reason to have more than a terabyte. It's a lot. A real lot.

..

....
...
..

way to much.

get a quad core intel, they are petty cheep now (around 400) and ALOT better then anything else (i am a amd fan and i am saying go intel.. heh)

get two gigs of ram in one package..

Raid has no place on a desktop computer. and imo, ITS WAY TO ADVANCED FOR ANYONE HERE.
seagate harddrives are better too.

for a ups, get apc.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6842101002 will do good for 5-10 mins.

NEVER get a crappy sony dvd drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827106045 will be even better and is cheeper

Foxconn is worthless for motherboreds, get asus

I was pretty confused, myself. Perhaps next time we should discuss the subject a bit more before making suggestions and later changing our minds... :P

Well, to be fair, it is over a grand less than an identical Alienware, and most of the price seems to be coming from the peripherals...

Your continued criticism of the technical aspects leads me to challenge you to select a motherboard, GFX card, and processor.

Read the reviews of the item. I'd also be using it for gaming, and television.
