"By the time we arrived, (indicating tara/kark) everyone was already on the ground, aside from Lucida, of course. I suppose there was no way to earn his trust, so it came to blows. Scared him off with a few blows of my own though, thankfully.

Speaking of which, I'm using some rather... poor weaponry. Would you happen to have an armory where I could equip myself more properly?"

Hey it's 3am and I need to get up at 8am. Roll after work for sure.

Meanwhile feel free to throw questions at me relating to the RtD about anything you might have questions about.

The world as the players know it:

Intermission power, go!

"Ah good, that saves us an explanation.
So, like he said, diplomacy broke down. I wish I could say I was surprised."

Vandolf: "By the time we arrived,

He gestures to Tara and Kark.

Vandolf: ”Everyone was already on the ground, aside from Lucida, of course. I suppose there was no way to earn his trust, so it came to blows. Scared him off with a few blows of my own though, thankfully.
Speaking of which, I'm using some rather... poor weaponry. Would you happen to have an armory where I could equip myself more properly?"

Kark: ”He’s a good fighter, ‘ll be great help.”

Elizabeth: ”Very well, you have permission to pull a few items from the nearby armory.
Now, I’d like to hear all of your thoughts on how you might propose this situation is handled.”

Tara: ”If negotiation failed and would continue to fail, I imagine that leaves us only the option to stop Lucida from reaching its goal, by whatever means possible.
However, I don’t believe that negotiation is completely off the table. If it is working off of its strongest memory, then perhaps we could try to determine who is inside the weapon and give them a little, help, I suppose. Memory recovery could bring them to understand their situation better and maybe change their mind.”

The lord’s head twitches to her right, as if about to look at something but decided against it.

Kark: ”Informing the people watching over Ultima about the-”

Elizabeth: ”Already done. They are taking the situation very seriously and are in the process of doubling their defenses, if they haven’t finished already.”

Kark: ”Ah, I guess there’s a reason why you’re lord, huh.”

She looks at you, seeing if you have anything to say.

Ki’stha: "Definitely academic."

Guide: ”Very well then, to the academic district!”

Even at night, the academic district is busy with students, scholars, instructors, researchers, and fabricators. The majority of the people you see are chirop, but there’s still a fairly large number of humans, and even an occasional lupus.

The guide presents the two of you of a rough presentation of the various districts and sections.

Image

Guide: ”The studious never sleep in Magusalto - there is as much activity in the night as there is in the day.”

The first area you visit is the Basic Academics section. Most of the people around are fairly young and sociable.

Guide: ”Here is where the basics of education are taught to the majority of the young citizens. Language, literature, mathematics, physics, history, agriculture. The inner tower is for a higher tier, premium education, going into more specialized fields like advanced physics and specific fields of mathematics, economics, politics, those sort of things.”

While the outer areas of the section were full of more or less ‘normal’ people, as you move closer to the inner towers you find chirop dressed in more expensive uniforms, speaking in more formal manners, and generally hold themselves to an air of superiority.

Guide: ”Next up, the Magic Study section. It’s shaped like a giant upside-down L. A good number of the towers here are practice facilities - lot of rooms with the walls protected with anti-magic systems so magic can be safely practiced. The majority of the inner towers and outer academic towers are for magic study, and masses of foreigners come to Magusalto to study magic. Our dormitories provide conveniently located housing for students.”

As the guide said, there are many chirop of different fur patterns, a few similar to Miimas’s light sandy fur. Humans are in an abundance as well, some seem to be local to the area, others wearing outlandish clothing and different skin tones that reflect their foreign origins.

Guide: ”Last but not least is the Research section. It doesn’t appear to be that busy, since most of the action is happening inside behind closed, locked, guarded doors and non-disclosure agreements.”

Yup, a lot more quiet in comparison to the other academic sections. Few people on the streets, and the ones that are quickly rush about, carrying important documents or containers, eager to get to their destination.

Guide: ”That’s a general overview of the academic section. Any questions? Want to look at anything in detail? Check out another place?”

You get up to leave the eatery.

Eatery Patron: ”♥♥♥♥, could’a sworn...”

Thanks for that, could'a gotten tricky there.

Horoma: We can’t have you getting into any trouble, now can we?

While her tone reminds you of a young school teacher cheerily talking to her class, you think you hear the slightest hint of an edge, a subtle… You’re not sure what, exactly. It unnerves you for some reason, but you shake it off.

Another voice speaks in your mind, quieter, and you know that you’re the only one who can hear it.

Grant: I probably don’t seem too trustworthy with my roots in the Second and your partnership with Vranhal, but… Well, our newly acquired friends, Caelus knows how many spirits of children in that staff. Where did they come from?
Living children that died.
They don’t seem to be opposed to their situation, but, well, I don’t know. Just watch yourself.

Miimas: ”Time to call it a night? Or maybe check out stuff?”

"From what I saw... Lucida wants to try diplomacy. But last time he trusted people, he ended up locked away in Caelum's vault for years. He's certainly not willing to put himself in a position where that could happen again. If it was a safe, valid option for him, one with no chance of us pulling out swords and beating him back down to a sealed state... I think he would talk with us.
You'd need to really put yourself on a limb for it to work, show him you really do mean no harm. A wide open meeting place, no guards, definitely don't have Torrent there.
It'd be dangerous, for him and for us. That might be the key to getting him to listen, if anything would."

Tara: ”What is Torrent’s relation with Lucida?”

There’s a silence as everyone looks at Torrent. Even the lord, her expression suggesting that she may have asked him before.

Torrent: ”... A story for another time.”

Tara narrows her eyes, suspicion on her face, but doesn’t speak.

Elizabeth: ”So, unarming ourselves to get Lucida to negotiate, and bringing Lucida’s memories back.”

There’s a series of rapid wooden taps, bursts of four, the lord’s nails hitting the desk as she stares at Torrent.

Elizabeth: ”Both ideas would probably work a lot better if we actually had some information on Lucida, something it seems only you know.”

No response.

”The two worlds do not work the same way. The laws are different. Do you see this town in ruins? It was from one of ours trying to enter your world through this pinch. We cannot exist in your world in our normal forms. One of ours crossed the pinch and he was altered to conform to this world’s laws - a form that reduced this place to ruins.
I do not know what form you would take, or how much of you is already in our world, and how reliant you are on your form in this world.
As for what our world is like - it is more free, I suppose. The laws here seem very restricting compared to ours.”

Guide: ”Various places in the magic study section, probably some in research and manufacturing as well. I wouldn’t really be able to tell you the specifics, more of something you’d need to look into with academic or business factions. I do know there’s a facility in the manufacturing district that produces Eitulta lamps, if that’s something you’re interested in.”

You look down at yourself, seeing what kind of fur you have. The majority of it is black, or a really dark grey, save for a horizontal stripe about shoulder height, looking like a piece of ribbon resting on your shoulders and dropping slightly down across your chest.

Local to the area, but you’re not exactly sure where.

The two of you walk around town, looking for inns, and find one that seems fairly cheap. The building is fairly simple - a large dome with a high ceiling. The doorway leads to a tunnel that ends in the center of the structure, a sort of lobby-esque area with doors on the surrounding wall. A lupus sits behind a wooden desk at the back of the lobby.

Innkeeper: ”’Lo there, care to stay a night? 10 copper per room, per night. One room’s enough to fit two.”
