"Don't aim at the face."It's a wooden rod made of three twisting lengths of wood, resembling a large plant root. The bottom of the staff tapers off and ends in a blunt metal cap, while the top holds a red gemstone. You have no idea what it does, but it must be useful, right?
John:

> You pass through the gate, and see Gustaf take the lead of the party.
Gustaf:
"In that case, we don't have any time to waste."The group takes a wide, well-used but in good condition stone road heading to the east. You take position beside Koa and Ettiin, with Hakua in between you and Gustaf and the Black Dragon at the rear.
"It must be horrible to lose the convenience... and the joy, of flying. I'm sorry."Ettiin:
"Eh, not like I've really flown that much to begin with. Can't fly wearing a full suit of armor."She brings up her arms for you to see her gauntlets, which are busted open at the side. Ettiin's bulky wing-bone claws are folded against her arm, bulging out. A thin layer of skin covers them, but they still look bare. Her regular fingers are unchanged, still allowing her to hold things normally.
Ettiin:
"My wings would break a lot during fights, too. Now, at least they're more durable and I can use them for something."Koa doesn't appear to be so optimistic, though. She looks at the stump where her right forearm used to be with glassy eyes.
Turning away your gaze, you try to direct your focus on remembering your past. A memory starts to creep into your mind, and your vision blurs for a moment.
Once it clears, you find yourself standing on a hilly plain. In front of you, the grass extends onwards until it turns to sandy dunes, and then the ocean. A massive, wooden ship with large billowing sails is close to the shore, and puffs of smoke can be seen coming out of holes on its side. You turn to your left, and see one of your allies, a chirop fully suited in armor. She says something that you can't hear, and when you shout back to her, her body flies into the side of a hill. Mangled pieces of metal and flesh fly out of the newly formed crater.
Cursing to yourself, you turn around and run parallel to the coast, the ground exploding here and there around you. A human in a red cloak hops over a sand dune ahead to your right and shouts while pointing behind him, and you see another large ship sitting at the shore, with its flank facing you. Scores of men garbed in brown uniforms rappel down off the ship via ropes, brandishing strange metal pipes.
The numerous portholes on the ship flare yellow and red, and you slam your legs into the ground and brace yourself, magic rushing through your muscles and armor. Something slams you hard in the chest and pushes you back, your feet grinding into the soil. The object, a large iron ball, then stops and falls to the ground, the only damage to you being a dented chestplate and a slightly bruised chest.
You shake your head to clear the illusion. Looking around, you see that the party is still moving forward with you. Ettiin now has the sword that Koa was holding.

There's a broken sword, where part of the blade is still sharp and attached to an intact handle, various bits of metal scattered about, a corpse partially covered in armor, another corpse in dirty green robes, and several others that are simply red mounds of flesh.
Most of the corpses have various belts on them... There's also a dagger as well.
