I think we just found RtD's motto. That right there is golden.

Wow, it's like someone unboxed a crate of internets from 2005 or something.

the game ended in 2009; moot declared it officially dead after a wizard on /b/ successfully guessed their post number

Re: FG Lounge
I'm not following this at all and I feel really out of the loop now. But that doesn't really matter because it's time for another episode of: Theoretical Nonsense with Nighthawk!
This time, we're discussing PLOT - That all-powerful thing which dictates the direction of every story.
Now, the question is this: When it comes to RtD, do you think it's better to... A) Lay out every event ahead of time. B) Prepare a basic skeleton of what happens, but come up with how it happens on the spot. C) Just use a basic idea and wing everything else.
What you say may or may not impact my actions in the future! As such, please try to answer with seriousness. Thanks again for any input, and if there is no input... well, I will feel as awkward as one can feel in the midst of a forum silence. Which is almost as awkward as a real-life silence. Almost.

Re: FG Lounge
Somewhere between B and C.
No plotline survives first contact with a mob of players.

Re: FG Lounge
Mine is X is going on, you can do Y to change it, or just leave it alone. The best way to put it is dropping someone off back in time. History's story wouldn't be exactly the same with that person back there, but they can either be a minor change or a major change.
Certain plot events WILL happen (just like going back in time isn't really going to allow you to stop an earthquake), while others can be delayed or prevented from happening. In HK's case, he created Infidi's sequel.

Re: FG Lounge
I honestly can think of like 3 different things that could qualify for that honor, and I have no damn idea which.
Also, I use B more or less. It's good to let the player have freedom, but too much freedom and they won't know what to do. You can throw them a bone, but if you're just throwing random bones instead of everything you need for a skeleton, then they won't know what to make out of it. That was supposed to be an analogy but it tied into what you said about plot skeletons surprisingly well. Woo!

Re: FG Lounge
I have CB. A basic skeleton of ideas which branch to let the players have complete freedom. They can do whatever they want, and I won't create a god like entity to stop them derailing the plot.
Or they can follow the plot for as long as they want, stop and side quest, then continue. Or whatever, really. The skeleton is more of a guideline for story, like major cities and stuff. The rest is made up on the fly.
