Frankly, though, I think it's pretty fitting for an RtD. Everyone's always up against such unbeatable odds that death for the whole party is pretty damn likely.
I also admire the fact that you're willing to stick it to your players and kill them. I don't think I could ever do that.
The reason they all died was not only because the pilot failed to save the ship, it was also because the bottom half of the ship was lost, the reactor was ejected and a number of other problems.
Got to love low rolls. Lets you throw a wrench in the works. Or in my case, a hand grenade.
But seriously, a failure on the dice is a failure, and a 1 is meant to be as bad as it can be, and a 5 as best as it can be.
EDIT : Also, I found another ship from my RtD. It was going to be the next ship the players had.
Strangely enough, it has gone transparent. Huh.
