The 'find Panther' action was a minor action, so he could've both found and killed it anyway; that wouldn't have helped him at all, as he'd still have to spend another turn retrieving the blade.

The Panther staps backward in shock as Tyler leaps at it. He deflects multiple claw-swipes with his Machete, bloodying the cat's paws, then boots it in the side. The cat stumbles sideways, struggling to keep its balance, and Tyler takes the opportunity. He jumps forward, plants the USP on the side of its head, and fires. A loud PLERT comes from the barrel of the gun as the round goes from silencer to flesh, and the cat jerks sideways in its deathfall to slump to the ground.
"KAY-OH !! Aww yeah! I am soo awesome!"
