Red shrugs.
Red: "Iunno. Showed up one day, fixed my body up, gave me a place to live, and as many cannon fodder to mow through as I wanted. Only damn person to ever give me anything, that's for sure. Until your passed-out friend came along. Plenty of good her kindness did her, ended up getting chewed on by her buddies. That's ♥♥♥♥ disgusting, you know."

"Well, that was just Klimt. And if you're anything like us, I don't think you'd be any different once starving. We're all monsters.
One big cannibalistic monster family."

Red giggles for a moment, an almost feminine sound, then cackles madly.
Red: "Now see, that's where I got lucky. Ain't got no friends to betray! No one, nuh-uh! HAHAAAAHAHAAHAAHAHAAAAA~"
She coughs, suddenly serious, or... selfconscious?
Red: "Anyways, listen to what I say. The big city ain't worth it. Stick it to the countryside, fewer starvies crawling around."
She pauses, as if judging her options, then sighs.
Red: "Once or twice a year, the Master sends a truck over, with a crate of smoked meat, fuel and some weapons. It comes through the old road in the Northwest. I haven't ever been there, but there's oughta be an outpost on the end. Maybe whoever lives there will treat you better.
...Make no mistake, I still ♥♥♥♥ hate your guts, and I'm glad to see you out the door. But I don't wanna be known as a ♥♥♥♥♥ who doesn't know how to return a favor."
She walks past you, back into the stadium, and you see she's already replaced her legs with chainsaws, and her missing arm with an antitank gun. Rosa's arm, on the other hand... seems untouched, as it waves back at you.
Red: "Catch you on the other side, suckers."

Klimt: "Goodbye!
...
What do we do? You two need repairs desperately."
Eigla: "Let's find a quiet place to rest, far away from the meat monster. We'll figure it out when we wake up."
The group wanders out into the night, their raincoats providing scarce cover from the torrential downpour. It feels... Disgusting, for a lack of a better word. Strange, how creatures who have no issue sticking their bare hands into unknown meat monsters, could be made nauseous and disoriented by mere running water.
Their path is lit only by occasional lighting, always followed by deafening thunder. They pass huge, indistinct shapes in the darkness, avoiding occasional glimpses of movement, desperately seeking cover under fallen trees and wrecked vehicles.
Eventually, they find something reasonably sturdy - an old military armored vehicle, perhaps a tank or APC, wrecked and partially buried in the mud. Klimt pries the upper hatch open, and finds it reasonably dry inside. The seating has long decayed into nothingness, but at least it's a solid roof.
Having no better way of making Rosa comfortable, Eigla lies her down on the floor, gently using her own arm to prop the back of her gunner's head. Klimt huddles in a corner, trying to stand guard, while Emilia sits in the middle of the room, lookin at a wall. Her eyes roll up, and she starts snoring softly.
You're all tired. So tired. It takes very little time for everyone to drift off. ________________________________________

Darkness. "Okay. Just hold still, now. Quick, before the others notice. All right. Okay. K-keep your eyes shut like we promised, okay?"
*click*
"Look, it'll... It'll only hurt for a moment, then it'll be done. Okay?"
He nodded. He had pictured how it would go, many times before in his mind. After what had happened to his sister, well... He had to face reality.
"I'm so sorry. I love you, Son."
*BANG*
Something felt warm in his chest, then very cold. Despite his promise, he couldn't help but open his eyes as he fell backwards. Father, still in his ragged officer uniform, holding his signature magnum revolver, barrel still smoking. Tears in his eyes. Hastily dug walls of earth. Something soft and lukewarm fell onto his face. Then something more. His body felt heavy.
"YOU! STOP RIGHT THERE!"
"It's already too late, Chief! It's done, it's done!"
"Drop that shovel, you crazy bastard!"
"He's just a kid! H-He doesn't deserve this! At least let him die in peace!"
"Peace? PEACE? You idiot, NONE of us are gonna have any peace if those things break through. You heard the orders! We need every body! Everyone!"
"Jesus Christ, he's my son! He's my son, dammit!"
"Myers! Willem! Get him to the pods! Quick!"
His hearing seemed to stop working. There was only wind, howling past his ears. He felt strong hands wrapping around his shoulders, pulling him... Somewhere. Glimpses of scared, horrified faces. Corridors, staircases. A metal table. Scalpels, syringes, doctors.
Darkness, once again.

FRAGMENT OF MEMORY: GIRL ________________________________________
She was your best friend.
Walking together to school. Going out shopping. Sleepovers. Tea parties.
You were as one. A match made in heaven. She saw you as a friend. You saw her as... Something more.
No one understood you like she did. Your parents were nice, your friends were helpful and polite... But it was as if she could see right through you. You were only kids back then, but... You read fairy tale books to sleep, but always replaced the prince's character with a charming, confident swordswoman.
You'd been careless, once. Said too much. Endangered your friendship. You felt like crying.
"So... You want to be my wife, is that it?"
You nodded, meekly, burning in shame.
"Then! Let's do it like this. I have this old ring... Here, let me put it on your finger. There, now we're married! Buuuut, I only have one ring, so... I guess you'll wear it half the time, I'll wear it half the time! How's that work?"
You actually cried. Except, with a smile.
"Oh shoosh, you big baby. You're my best friend! Of course I'd marry you! We can be together forever, right?"
You held hands and rested your head on her shoulder as you waited for your train to arrive.

Eigla woke up slowly, as a thin strand of sunlight filtered throught the partially opened hatch above. Rosa's hair felt soft against her face. Face? She had one again? It must have, grown back during the night? Somehow?
Rosa was already awake, and looked her in the eyes with her usual inscrutable expression. She looked... Better. Still missing her jaw and half her torso, but better.
Klimt woke with a start, hyperventilating despite his body's reduced need for oxygen. He felt cramped and uncomfortable. Emilia was still... Asleep? Sitting there with her eyes turned back, at least.

Rosa raises a hand to pet Eigla, but stops and pouts when she notices the shorter girl's skull is still covered in scabs and cuts, most of her hair missing.
The shieldmaiden, not realizing her companion's displeasure, nuzzles her in return. She lies there for a couple of minutes, quietly enjoying Rosa's company, occasionally letting out soft sighs of satisfaction. Eventually, they decide it's time for repairs, and take out the necessary parts from the gunner's coffin.
First, the jaw. It is mostly metal, but with a thin layer of fresh, pink flesh over the joints. Two rather large, spring-loaded bolts allow it to be friction-fit against Rosa's skull, while still being able to be moved freely. A small bundle of muscle lines the inner edge of the piece, quickly mating with the corresponding ones that remain in her cheeks and neck. Finally, two armored plates attach to the sides, covering the still not fully healed tissue and protecting it from impacts.
Eigla can't help but miss the look of Rosa's soft lower lip, but concedes the new jaw is quite striking.
Then, the sheet of skin and muscle. It is flat and utilitarian, being a rather poor substitute for the features that Klimt chewed out. Better than having your organs out for the world to see, but not by much. Attaching it to Rosa's shoulders and upper body is rather easy, but it ends up short around the waist, leaving her abdominal wall torn, guts peeking through the gap. The fit is too tight in general, clinging to Rosa's ribcage as if she were malnourished and weak. Her shirt was also torn off in the attack, so she's much more exposed than she'd like.
Klimt coughs, trying to control his breathing. The panic eventually subsides, but not before his antics wake up Emilia, who looks around confusedly.
