Vandolf: "Well, I don't know what your device did, but this definitely doesn't look like what the underground city was so far...

Say, if there's a big telepathic signal from the center, maybe that means there's a very powerful creature there? I'm not sure how it all works, but we might want to find some information about it before we do anything rash.

We could try to interact with these creatures. If they're hostile, going in deeper will probably just get us surrounded. If not, maybe we can find out what's going on."

Vandolf: "Could've sworn I saw eyes... maybe I'm a bit traumatized. Creatures or no, we'd best investigate."

You lead the party over to one of the buildings that you detect magic happening in, and carefully open the door.

A giant crystalline mass greets you, sitting right in front of the door. In fact, it seems to be taking up the entire building, going through the ceiling. Looking to the left and right, it certainly seems to be taking up the building’s width, only a few feet of space between it and the walls. Looking closely, there seem to be a network of vein-like mana conduits running throughout the mass, with countless nodes here and there that perform some unknown function.

Kura: ”Is this a naturally formed component? It looks organic, like a beast core. So uh, you all know that witches can bend space an’ stuff, right? And breaking a witch core causes a huge explosion of debris that seems to come from nowhere, and it’s suspected that their cores are much larger than they appear, forced into a smaller form with space alteration.

I think we’re inside a witch core.”

Aandern: "When I first started studying witches, it involved stealthily searching for them and observing them from a distance, until I started to try to peacefully reveal my presence to them. That resulted in many patches of fur being burned away.

Poker here took a full fourteen seconds before she attacked me, which was drastically different from every result I had previously, so I continually pursued her until she felt comfortable enough with my presence that she didn't try to burn me. It took even longer for her to start talking to me, but after almost a year she is willing to stay in my dwelling and occasionally make light conversation.
