Caek Miggles, you owe me.

"Is there anyway I could be of assistance then? I'm sure a wizzard as powerful as you has one or two mundane tasks that one such as I could do for... say, I don't know, one or two of these musty tomes here?"

EDIT: Dammit, sorry caek, I'll teach you how to read anyway, coz I'm nice like that.

Play along with the old man in hours of getting taught.

I'd have to draw a crappy picture. It's got barbs/teeth on one side, and the other is very slightly curved with a sort of hook-blade at the bottom.

Post Re: Legends of the Sky
In any case, ROLLFERNO.

Ragdollmaster (Troy) [2]:
"Yeahhh, I'm just gonna go."
"NOOOOOOO! YOU HAVE NICE SWORD! LET BOJANGLES MAKE NICER!"

Before you can react, Bojangles has snatched the sword off your back, sheath and all, and hustles back into his blacksmith.
You stand there for a moment, dumbstruck.

Character

Miggles (Robert Wright) [10]:
Satisfied, you stroll down the road, soon finding a gunsmith that looks reputable. You head on in, and oh hey, you're not the first one here! James is already in here, working over the lady behind the counter. You stand there for a bit, watching him at work. You know, for a raging drunkard, he's kind of a ladykiller. The lady behind the counter is practically blushing and batting her eyelashes at him. Oh, wait, no, she just literally did. Swagger.
You clear your throat, alerting the both of them to your presence. The shopkeep shoots you a dirty look for interrupting them, but it immediately lessons as James greets you cheerfully.
"Eyyy, Rob! Meet this fine, fine lady here, she's a gunsmith! Diana, Rob. Rob, Diana. What're ya doing here anyway? Came to see me? Can't blame you there."
He slings a drunken arm around your shoulder and acts like you're old buddies. Eh, you just got a small fortune, you're in a good mood.
"I'm looking for a weapon actually."
At that, Diana perks up immensely. A customer is much better than just an interloper. Er, window shopper, not interloper. Ahem, yes.
"What are you looking for?"

Character

Fail Flail (Grif Mason) [10]:
"Is there anyway I could be of assistance then? I'm sure a wizzard as powerful as you has one or two mundane tasks that one such as I could do for... say, I don't know, one or two of these musty tomes here?"
"HRRRMMMMMMMMMMMM. Weelllllllll, if perhaps you were willlllllllling to part with your fairy heeerrrrrrrreeeee..."
"Not happening."
"Myesssssssss, I thought as muchhhh. Wellllllllllllll, these books are VERRRRRRRRRRY VALUABLLEEEEEEEEEE. I cannot allow them to simply slllllllllllllip from my fingers."
"Oh come now, there must be something. An odd job or task?"
"Welllllllll.... perhaaaaaaps, if you would allooooow me to harvest some of yoooooour SPPPPRITE'S Essence..."
"I already told you, no. Charlotte is with me."
"OH! No, no, it's NOTHING like that repulsive, if vaaaaluable, Fairy Dust. This is meeeeereeeely taking a bit of the faaaairy's unique type of maaaaaaaagic. It will need to sleeeeeep for a day or so to... recoverrrrr, but it should not be harmmmmed. For thisssss, I will reduce the price of 1 book to Thirty Drrrrrrrrachmas, or that of 2 books to 50 each!"

Character

Izen (Sedraxis) [3]:
"I'll give you my regular spear and 50 Drachmas for the OmniHead."
"You mean the one on your back? Let me see it."

You hand him the spear, and he spins it in his hands, scanning over it critically.
"Well, if I can sell this spear for 110 or more Drachmas, I'd accept. However, this spear you have here I wouldn't price a Drachma higher than 30. For one, it's a plain iron head. For another, whoever designed it just made a pointy diamond shape out of metal. It's not really 'good' at anything to be honest. I'd pay 20 Drachmas for it."

Character

Maart3n (Mareikura) [10]:
"I think I do, it mostly comes natural to me. We weren't really thought how to use basic on our island."
"You're from the boonies then?"
"... Excuse me?"
"Yep, definitely."

He hobbles away for a moment, roots around in a pile of scrolls and papers, and returns, laying a parchment onto the table. It's a diagram of a two concentric circles close together, with a six sided star made from 2 triangles in the center.
"Alright sonny, there are two important bits you need to know first off: Magic's origin and its structure.
First off is your history lesson. Long, long ago, something happened. Something bad. Don't know what, don't especially care. All we know is it created the Abyss, the space below the Sky, and the islands. It also charged the entire world with magic, completely saturated in fact. Everything has magic flowing through it at all times; you, me, the air, the walls, this tea. Everything. After a while, us humans realized that some of us could do strange and wonderful things. That was because we could guide the magic in the world, and give it shape with our minds. There's a limit to that in two ways though, first is that using magic puts a strain on the user, taxing a certain part of their mind painfully. The other part is that after a certain amount of usage, the mind becomes fatigued, and can't channel magic any more. This is different from the first, in that a long, slow, weak spell can trigger this.
Basically, use a LOT of magic in a short time, and you'll get a horrible headache and won't be able to concentrate. Use a lot of magic over a longer period, and the power of your magic will weaken until you take a rest."

He takes a drink of his tea, then turns his attention to the diagram.
"Second, is this. Magic is more or less divided up into 6 branches, in 2 categories. Category one is Energy. Divides up into Heat, Electricity, and Light. Category two is Matter, which contains Solid, Liquid, and Gas; a lot of people just refer to those as Earth, Water, and Air though. Additionally, Heat and Light cover both Fire and Ice, and Light and Darkness. While they each have fundamental differences, if you can master any from one category, you can do fine with the other branches in that category. Many mages specialize in one category, but some specialize in just one branch, and some learn both categories. It's all up to the mage. I myself specialize in Light and Dark magic, and I'm pretty damn good at it."
He takes another sip of tea.
"You get all that, or should I say it again slower?"

Character

Tomaster (James Tiber) [9]:
She gives you a hard look.
"Sorry, I'm a tad inebriated right now. At any rate, I'm looking for a gun slightly more effective against massive sky creatures than my blunderbuss. Any suggestions, miss..."
"Diana."

Her expression softens slightly, and she notices your bottle.
"Thunderwater? That's strong stuff. I remember my... friend used to drink the stuff."
"He had good taste. In booze and friends."
"Oh really now?"

A good half hour of casual chatting that turns into casual flirtation follows. You learn that she grew up on this island, learning gunsmithing from her father before he blew his hand off. At that point she took over the shop, and has been running it for 3 years since. You swap stories of your still young lives, enthralling her with the short but exciting story of your travels so far. You had no idea you could be such a charmer. Maybe it's the booze? Either way, she's practically wrapped around your finger, when suddenly Rob walks in. You then remember that you're here to buy a gun.
"Eyyy, Rob! Meet this fine, fine lady here, she's a gunsmith! Diana, Rob. Rob, Diana. What're ya doing here anyway? Came to see me? Can't blame you there."
"I'm looking for a weapon actually."

Diana perks up, remembering she runs a shop.
"What are you looking for? You too James, you came in for a weapon, right?"

Leave, see if I can find a black smith, or an interesting trinket dealer, or something vaguely interesting and affordable.
Dodgy old man... besides, magics not really my thing.

Ah, yes. Right, back to business. I need something effective against the big ass creatures we face on the Sky. A blunderbuss is nice, but no match for sky krakens.
Take suggestions. Be charming to lower prices.

Rolling then I have no idea.

Ragdollmaster (Troy) [9]:
"Thank you for the offer, but uh, I doubt I could afford your... expert craftsmanship. Also, this sword was a gift, so I don't want to change it at all, even though I'm sure you could make it better."
*SLAM*

You run after the quite obviously mentally disabled manbut takes you a minute to wrench the damn door open. You finally use Ramming Speed! to bust down the door, and go tumbling into the store again. Ok, your ankle did NOT appreciate that, you'll be regretting it later.
"OHAI! YOUR SORD IS NICE PERSON."
"...What."

You notice that your sword is on a table, and Bojangles is sitting there at the table with it, not shoving it into a forge or smashing it against an anvil or smashing it WITH an anvil or some other ungodly thing.
You angrily walk over and take your sword back-
Hey, I was talking with him.
"Wha?"
Put me back, you're boring and- wait. You can hear me?
"...Yeeeess?"

Character

Miggles (Robert Wright) [9]:
"Ah! Well, I was looking for something convenient. Perhaps one of those fancy types that don't need reloading after every shot?"
"A repeater? Well, you're in luck actually, this here thing I was working on happens to be one. Won't fire for some reason, though."
"Oh, here!"

You lay your hand on the gun and activate a Winder Charge. The gun gives off a metal ringing sound, and you instantly see the issue.
"Ah, I see what's wrong. Here, you've got this lever set up like this..."
"Yeah, it needs to be to- OH! It can't make a full rotation like that!"
"Yep! It's just backwards I think."

Diana switches the component around, then picks up the gun, makes sure it's not loaded, and takes an experimental shot. It makes a satisfying click as the internal mechanisms work flawlessly.
"Well what do you know! It would've taken me a week to figure that out if I ever did. Thought the problem was COMPLETELY different."
"Eh, it's what I do."
"Hmm... Alright then, tell you what. I'd normally price a gun this nice at around 1200 Drachmas, but since you helped fix it, I'll shave 400 off that. Even comes with 200 of these little bastards."

She holds up a small brass and lead tube, about half the size of her finger.
"These babies are special. Time release flame magic activated by the gunpowder in each cartridge. Basically makes the bullets explode.
So, we have a deal?"

Character

Fail Flail (Grif Mason) [6]:
"Uh, yeah, not happening, have a nice day."
"Ah, er, well, if you ever change your mind, MEGUUUUUUSTO shall be here!"
"You smell like old bread and shame!"

You and Charlotte beat a hasty retreat out of the store as a book comes flying through the air at your sprite. Out on the street, you watch your back while Charlotte darts around your head.
"Charlotte!"
"Hee! Well it true! He stupid lie-man."
"Calm down a bit. Even if he was a fake, that's no reason to behave like that."

You head down the street, and find a store named "Artifaction Almadum". Your curiosity piqued, you enter. As you do, a bell on the door rings, signalling your arrival.
"Ah, a customer! One moment, I'll be right out!"
Hmm. A pretty low key shop. Three glass cases, each one with one item, and that's it.

Character

Izen (Sedraxis) [4]:
"If I can get this spear enchanted with like, runes or something, will you trade it for the OmniHead?"
"I- well... If it's something useful and not a "Spear of Making-Whistling-Noises-When-Thrown", then I suppose so."
"Awesome! Be right back, gotta go find my mage!"

You speed out the store before the shopkeep can say anything else, and quickly go looking for Mare.
You can't find him anywhere.

...Waitaminute.
How the HELL did you forget about this pouch of Drachmas you brought with you?
God you're stupid, there's a good 150 in here!

Character

Maart3n (Mareikura) [6]:
"So if I got that right, that means I'm a mage specialized in a single branch? Can you train me in light and dark magic?"
He scrunches up his face.
"Well, right now you're pretty strictly fire magic, so yes, you're currently specialized in one branch. You could easily adapt that to ice as well. As for Light and Dark, well... they ARE in the same category, so it shouldn't be too difficult to learn. And Fire and Ice have the same split as Light and Dark...
I'll tell you what. Show me mastery over the dichotomy between Heat and Cold, and I'll teach you how a master uses Light and Darkness."
"How would I do that?"
"Impress me somehow. Show me a great feat of Thermal magic, overcome a great foe that uses fire or ice and give me proof of it, invent a spell that'll knock my socks off, I don't care how, just prove to me that you know more than 'I like fire, fire makes things burn, I like to make things burn' like every other upstart fire mage in the world."

The old man begins coughing hard, likely from how aggravated he became during that last part of that speech. He must not like newbie mages much.

Character

Tomaster (James Tiber) [5+2=7]:
"Ah, yes. Right, back to business. I need something effective against the big ass creatures we face on the Sky. A blunderbuss is nice, but no match for sky krakens."
"Mm, yes, I seem to remember you mentioning them. Well..."

She walks into the back room for a moment, then comes back out with... Oh god what the hell is that, it's like a ship's cannon except a gun. How do you even HOLD it?! That's a handle, but it just sticks out straight down, and there's another one on the side. Wait, do you... yes, you think it's supposed to go over your shoulder. Jegus, that's a MONSTER of a gun.
"This has a little more... Oomph to it. Kickback's a ♥♥♥♥♥ though."
"It looks it. Good LORD, did you make this beast?"

She grins.
"It's my baby."
"...I'll take it. How much?"
"Mmm... for you? I'd be losing a lot of money, but 500 Drachmas. 350 if you're willing to part with that Blunderbuss..."

Diana gives you... a look. You're unable to decipher it at the moment, but from your vast interactions with women you determine it is neither abject horror nor unbridled rage.
