CD and Grif start by prying the armour plates off the torso, then root around in the thing's 'guts'. Beta makes a face at the comparison, then goes back to watching the door.

The robot seems to be of generally higher manufacturing quality than the local guardbots, and more thorough examination of the lower body suggests they possess remarkable running speed, weight capacity, and jumping distance, for a biped frame of their size. Their ability to exercise this, however, is hampered by a substandard processing unit, which in turn suggests that corners had to be cut somewhere. Serial numbers are few and far between if they are even present at all, and few of the parts have identifying markers. Those that do are simple mass-produced components, probably stolen ones.

As for the medical staff, there's not a whole lot that can be moved easily, but one office is commandeered to be the operating theatre, and a couple of the cubicles should suffice for everything else... at least for now.

Recalling what the instructor said, he uses short bursts, two or three rounds at a time. The 'bots don't spook under fire nearly as much as humans or androids would, so picking them off is easy (if somewhat unnerving). At least three of the five collapse permanently, and the fourth topples unceremoniously onto its front, leaking coolant. The fifth, its tiny computer brain spinning, hesitates fatally; another round smashes through the faceplate. It goes stiff as a board, then flops over backwards melodramatically.

With the majority of the active bots in the area regrouping and prepping for the next assault on the mini-tower, progress into the city is easy. Everywhere, signs of old colony life are visible, but not a trace of civilians.

Finally, after a few more minutes driving around, you get a sketchy signal...
