Griffore: "Be careful, there are flying corrupted around these parts. We'll meet up at Venari."

Nacht takes off into the sky, flying east a fair distance above the trees. It isn't long before you can see shapes revealed by the moonlight emerging from the treetops, lifting themselves into the air with powerful wings.

Nacht: Corrupted chirop and dragons.

Five human-sized bat-like creatures are starting to tail Nacht, and about 3 are further to the left.

Ahead is a large dragon-like beast slightly larger than Nacht, flying towards you head-on.

Conditions :
- Burned Face

> Silly Torrent, why would I give up Whirlwind? That'd be silly.

Torrent seems to approve of your thought-message, and you and Whirlwind swing your shared blade through the air, launching a large spinning razor of air.

The closest shape is struck and is cut in half, its upper part flying off of its body. The rest of the creatures give a bestial roar before charging towards your location.

The next closest beast flies apart in a flash of light in a hundred cleanly sliced pieces, LucidAucupe in the center of the carnage.

Two down, eight to go.

Conditions :
- Whirlwind Armor (+2 Physical Actions)

Torrent: I can enhance all of your physical strikes and allow you to project attacks in concussive blasts. Don't worry about the finer details of magic; Just think it and I'll perform.

John and Aucupe quickly take down an enemy each, John with a blade of air and Aucupe... You're not quite sure. But she's standing where one beast used to be, and the rest of the beast is lying around her in pieces.

The rest of them are charging at your location roaring.

> "Seems we have little choice in the matter, then."

To Koa -

"You're the leader of this force. I would gladly accept the contest of swordsmanship if it lent us some advantage, but not without your leave."

Koa looks at the ground for a moment with her arms crossed, deep in thought.

Koa: "A weapon that fights to escape its purpose. A fight to become free."

???: "Yes."

Garett: "Don't tell me you're thinking about letting it go. That would be against orders."

Koa: "The magister doesn't know that this is a weapon several hundred years old with a kill count larger than the population of our largest city."

Garett: "That... Is true. But what, do we just leave him here?"

???2: "No. We capture it."

Everyone one turns to the main doorway of the entrance hall, where chirop dressed in black robes is backed by two others in red robes.

???2: "A scout was sent after your team to identify the assailant in the event that you fell, but returned to us with information."

A pair of chirop then appear under the left, right, and rear arches of the hall.

???2: "We have a means to stop the corruption right at our finger tips, a weapon, to end this all."

Blizzard slowly looks around, on edge, rapier ready to strike.

???2: "Come Koa, let us become the heroes of this conflict."

Koa looks at Blizzard, Ettiin, Garett, and then you, her bright amber eyes asking.

???2: "If you refuse to take part, then at least step aside. We need not more casualties."

The other chirop draw their weapons or raise their arms in preparation to cast.

> "C'mon Feiar, he seems nice and... fluffy enough."

Both you and Feiar walk over to Griffore, who lies down low enough for the two of you to get on.

Griffore: "Be careful, there are flying corrupted around these parts. We'll meet up at Venari."

With you and Feiar on Griffore and Cihas and Gustaf on Nacht, the group splits into two parties, with the Black Dragon taking to the skies and the... Giant weasel? Bounding to the edge of the clearing and quickly navigating its way to the east.

You wrap your arms around the furry creature the best you can while Feiar wraps her arms around your waist. It's pitch-black in the forest, but Griffore doesn't have any issues with the lighting.

Griffore: "We have some things closing in behind us. If you could try to take shots at it, that would be nice."

In the pitch-black darkness. Right.

Dash forward with bursts of Kinetic and Wind and jumps, essentially skipping over the ground in great leaps.
Use this and a swing of Whirlwind when I get close to take another corrupted down.

"I'll do what I can."

After making sure that we don't fall off, draw my crossbow and take a shot at the creature.

Never mind - Moar talking.
Honestly, I like talking better than fighting. Less dangerous.

"... Such a powerful tool should not be wielded by anyone, regardless of the intent for which it is used.
We suspect that artifacts of such power could be the very cause of the corruption; if you try to control something like that... you may just cause more harm than good."

???2: "The weapon that was believed to cause this corruption was a Chaos weapon; This one is a Disaster weapon. They are of different classes and do not pose the same threats."

She then draws a smallsword, the tip pointed at your party.

???2: "You four, step aside."

Decision-making and fast-actioning do not go together. But I am trying. Gimme a sec.

"Let me ask one more question."
Quickly ask Blizzard (???): "What happened the last time you were captured, and how many fell before you were?"

Crap, I end up TALKING more. On top of that I won't be able to action any more for the next five hours.

You quickly turn to Blizzard and ask -

"What happened the last time you were captured, and how many fell before you were?"

???: "I was in a Caelum monestary surrounded by fifty foot soldiers and twenty mages, all humans. I was low on energy. Took out every soldier and half of the mages before I fell."

Look around at the other soldiers/mages.
"How many of us are there here? About a dozen?
I really don't think the odds are in our favor in this fight."

> Step aside.
"I don't want to interfere, but besides repaying debts to those who have helped me, I'm not bound by any particular duty... and I don't think that dying here would help the effort to stop the corruption."

> With a burst of kinetics and wind, you throw yourself forward at a particularly large creature, easily twice your height, and whip Whirlwind into the creature's stomach as you whizz by its side.

The spiked bottom of Whirlwind's axe blade hooks into the monster's stomach and you're swung around and plant your feet firmly into the thing's back before jumping off again, tearing a ragged cut as you fly off.

Hitting the ground and then skidding, you turn to look at the beast as its innards spill out of its sides, give its last roar of pain, and falls forward into the ground.

Meanwhile, Aucupe dispatches two other corrupted with blades of light, and Mist gets pounded into the ground by a corrupted hulk.

You step aside out of the way to a corner of the hall.

"I don't want to interfere, but besides repaying debts to those who have helped me, I'm not bound by any particular duty... and I don't think that dying here would help the effort to stop the corruption."

After some hesitation, Koa, Ettiin, and Geratt take your side.

???2: "A human mage is no comparison to a mage of the Hastae."

And with that, the team of nine chirop mages attack.

Three marauders are the first to attack, bolting fast enough reach Blizzard in a split second, only to continue past the white blur and tumble into the ground, each of them with a bloody hole in their armor.

An instant later, twin lightning bolts flash from opposite ends of the room, striking Blizzard and stunning him long enough for a barrage of fireballs to land, exploding in flashes of heat and light.

When the fires clear, the only thing left where Blizzard was standing is the rapier, and it's then that you noticed that three of the mages were impaled from icicles that looked like they had sprouted from the floors and walls around them.

???2: "Looks like it ran out of juice."

The chirop with the black robes and the two in red are the only ones standing besides your own task force, three survivors out of nine. The ones in red, which you identify as healers, rush to check on their fallen comrades, and from the way they quickly move from one to another, you can tell that there aren't any surviving wounded.

The one in black slowly walks up to the rapier on the ground, staring at it for a moment before reaching down and picking it up.

???2: "You will pay for those deaths in lives you will save."

???: The death to slavers is well-awarded.

The black-garbed chirop suddenly stops moving while the healers give her a panicked look. For a moment, nothing happens, and then a multitude of blood-red spikes erupt from the black-garbed chirop's body, ripping her to shreds.

The frozen spikes of blood shatter and Blizzard clatters after hitting the ground, the weapon smeared with gore. The red-robed chirop stare at the spectacle briefly before fleeing the hall, leaving your task force of four alone with the weapon.

Griffore: "Good, good. We have more though. Oop."

Your oversized weasel mount grinds to a stop, and the sounds of beasts come from all around. Griffore scrambles up a nearby tree with you and Feiar holding onto him as tight as the two of you can manage, all the while the sounds of monsters coming closer from all directions.

Griffore: "Anyone have any ideas?"

Shake my head.
"I knew we were out of our league."
Address Blizzard: "I wouldn't even try to wield your power, and a rapier isn't really my type of weapon, anyway. You said you were cursed by your master and fight to free yourself. What is it that you want?"
