How well can I mind read without being detected?

The average person has no chance of detecting you. But others, like for example, a lord, will have a reasonable chance of detecting you.

Some others still are completely immune and will instantly detect you. For instance, a Terrisian priest.

When I'm detected, will they know who is trying to mind read them, or are they just aware that it's being attempted?

That depends. Some will just know that someone is trying to read their minds, others will be able to tell exactly who is doing the reading.

Some still can reverse it and use it to pinpoint your exact location.
