Post Sim City is a poorly developed game
EA has recently released a broken game in which you couldn't play upon buying because of some server issues.
This continues for several days until a patch came out and others claim to still be experiencing problems.

This has led to poor sales, hate, and threatening reviews and lawsuits.

I give you SimCity.
I ask you please to watch both videos.

Not even weeks into launch and they have already set up damage control to the unsuspecting public to make them forget about their horrible failure.

Really, comedy doesn't get much better than this.

Changed the thread title to be a touch more friendly and appropriate. I don't like EA recently either but come on bro. - D
You should have never liked EA in the first place.
Believe it or not there was a time when EA wasn't a villain.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I jumped over to Cities XL.

It's just better. No shitty DRM, either. Also, Cities XL 2009 was originally planned to be an MMO as well, but they abandoned that idea.

Also the maps have an area of a 40² miles. And a trade system between cities. And having to build all your cities yourself.

And mega structures that you see under construction as you supply them with needed resources. Personally I usually try and get the nuclear power plant done first, but other people might go for others first.

TL;DR - ♥♥♥♥ Sim City, get Cities XL instead.

I think the most hilarious things about the Homosexual-Acceptance video is how much every hated it, one of the comments said that it was the equivalent of a guy doing blackface in the name of African Americans. The Bay 12 Forums made jokes about the homosexuals were carted off to Planet Homo, and you had to buy DRM DLC to get there, but of course, it's all Planet of Hats.

I learned my lesson about always on DRM after the atrocity that was Diablo 3, the only always on game I've ever bought.
That and EA is on my personal blacklist anways.

Top tip, if someone becomes worse than Jagex, or Activision, be careful.

One thing to note.
90% of the sources and articles and such I've seen have ragged on Simcity's always on connection as being DRM and forcing a multiplayer to what should be a singleplayer game.
I respect those completely, and quite agree with them.

BUT. They also fail to mention that EA or Maxis has said that another reason for the always on connection is that the game requires calculations that are apparently too hefty for the average desktop and require offloading on EA's servers.
Not sure how much I actually believe that, especially without a version that dumps all the calculations on the player's PC to test it with.
Just saying, take that into account.

But if you disconnect your internet connection the game will happily continue along for 15 or so minutes before it quits. Would be a bit hard to have server-side calculations run without being connected to the server.

Compared to other sims [ie, df] or clunky games [minecraft, cortex command] or larger game [most other contemporary civs], I don't see much problems, maybe when it comes to UI sparkles, but that's about it.

Here are some problems I have with this statement.

1. PC Gamers usually have souped up desktops/laptops to play games on. But anyone playing on a low end PC while trying to play Crysis on max then allowing statistics to come back and say, "We need to dumb down everything for this guy" is good marketing yes, but harmful for the other people who are interested in the company's ability to output amazing detail.

2. Any company that says "require offloading on our servers" is full of ♥♥♥♥ and confirms corruption.

Idd, the server-side calculations sound like total bs.

I mostly agree with it being bull♥♥♥♥, don't be alarmed.
I'm just saying that most every article I've seen hasn't mentioned it, and it's the most legitimate reason for having the always on connection I've heard.

Bump because I am almost prophetic.
Maxis Insider confirms that Internet Connection is NOT needed.
Well so much for that. EA is now full retard.

I would never buy EA games, I'd pirate them, but as it shows they are not even worthy of pirating... Can you boycott by not pirating?
