TF2: Halloween Update
TF2's 2010 Halloween update just dropped. Added: Both the Artpass Maps The Halloween one has a boss with 3000 health + 200*No. of Players that instant-kills with melee. He spawns once every 8 minutes. Contributing to killing him gives you an achievement dropping a pumpkin head hat. Doing the same with melee gives you another one that drops a haunted metal. The haunted metal can be made into an eyelander reskin or one of four non-droppable store hats.

The Horseless Headless Horseman is pretty cool. As much as he re-uses a number of Demoman animations, I honestly wouldn't have noticed until somebody pointed it out. Also, I've crafted my Saxton Hale mask and I'm now going back to get the rest of the masks. I'm also asking myself why exactly I'm doing this, but oh well.

Because Valve > You.
I haven't found a single gift, got the ghost metal though.
I like leading the boss to enemy side with a bonked scout.
Still, no heavy nerf. Sadface.

The boss is less scary once you figure out places to exploit his inability to jump. In particular, C and the part above C. You can just jump across and kite him around indefinitely, until he lose interest in you. The map itself actually has quite a spooky atmosphere if you've just tried walking through it alone.

Re: TF2: Halloween Update
It was apparently confirmed on SA by GreenMarine that the crafting recipes would work after halloween. So I'm probably going to wait to craft my axe; I prefer to have a full weapons set than a hats set. I'm only missing the axe, sticky jumper and sam & max items, though I'm probably not going to get the sam & max items seeing as they're complete reskins of vanilla items.

Re: TF2: Halloween Update
wow there's bosses in TF2? I've never seen a game go from FPS to grinding based MMORPG.

Re: TF2: Halloween Update
I have a feeling they were heavily influenced by the Vs Saxton Hale mod, which is great. One player is against up to like 30 others, and plays as Hale, who's melee-only. He can super-jump, and taunt to freeze people (and sentries), and one-hits everyone. Melee against him is always a crit, and Crit-a-Cola makes you do full crits instead of minicrits. He has shitloads of health if there are 15+ people playing against him. Basically, engineers are the most vital - if they have three sentries, and people are waiting near them, the knockback keeps you away from everyone, so Hale takes out sentries first usually (unless the person being Hale sucks). When you're fighting against him, everyone shoots him which is stupid. I always use the Sandman against him, so I can hit him then get tons of hits on him. Once when I was a Scout trailing him, dodging at hitting, I did about 4000 damage. Pretty damn good.

Re: TF2: Halloween Update
Yeah, the boss is a bit of fun. Fun note: wear the hat you get from killing him the first time to ignore his stun effect. Bonk scout is pretty overpowered on the halloween map, seeing as you can basically kill everyone around him to make sure you're it, use bonk and then barrel into the enemy lines. They seem to prioritise him for some reason, even though there is no reward for killing him past the first go and he'll ignore them if they avoid him.
