omigawd

Dogfighters rejoice, because Project Aces is back with some of the sexiest graphics and smoothest gameplay to date. Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is due to come out sometime in 2011 for PS3 and 360 (possibly PC, but not likely)

Trailer is a cinematic orgasm, enjoy what may easily be the coolest 90 seconds of your day.

^Besides all of that, I can't find many more details, but eh. Discuss.

Woot, it looks, erm, wonderful.
I love when the enemy plane explode and just after, a slow-mo thing happens to see the details of the exploded plane. (repetition is bad, but I can't do anything else due to vocabulary lack)
It just freakin' looks awesome.

This looks cool, I might get it for 360. Does it have any multiplayer features, anybody know?

It probably will, since Ace Combat 6 had multiplayer.

AC6 was a letdown for me, it felt more like a series of escort missions, where in 5 I felt like a ♥♥♥♥ dragon instilling fear into the enemy.
I haven't yet played 4, though I have it, hopefully that will bring back that feeling.
Zero was alright, though not quite as much of that predatory feel they instilled in 5.

4 is 'aight, although the storyline isn't quite as good as 5's. Still good, though. Most of the 'cutscenes' are these hand-painted slides narrated by some civilian guy, as far as I remember. No squadron commands, though. I haven't played Zero or 6 (and I think 6 was actually a 360 exclusive, but I could be mistaken), but I did play through 3 on an emulator.

Would you people maim me if I said that I'm not too excited about this?

I mean, the buildings were giant static rectangles, the explosions could use some work, and the inside of the cockpit looked way too unfinished to be put into a serious game trailer. You don't go around flaunting placeholder WIP stuff, do you? Also, single-button quick time event for dogfights? Gee, there goes the immersion.

Totally agree with Duh about Duh, though.

The buildings are destructible (at least partially so) as shown in the trailer, and not entirely static. I don't get what you mean by the interior of the cockpit- most of the planes were shown with the Third Person Camera. In AC, there's always been 3 cameras- 3rd, 1st, and Cockpit, and I don't ever recall seeing the Cockpit view in the trailer, except for when Akula ejected. However, that was probably just some quick CG render used solely for the trailer; the actual Cockpit view is probably better.

Quick time events are probably going to be situational. I doubt there will be anything like "press x to win", so I don't really care about 'em. Chances are they might be rare as hell throughout the game and they just showed one in the trailer to highlight it as a new feature.

AC6: Skies of Liberation by far had the best soundtrack of them all. Ace Combat 5 I never played; Heard the story was good, but the characters look way too anime for my tastes, and I hear it jumps into fantasy which I despise in a modern combat game.

If you despise unrealistic-ness, then what are you doing playing AC6? They have goddamn flying fortresses, and jets launching off of the same, not to mention flying through a maintenance tunnel in a jet. As for 5, it's about as fantastic as 6, more or less. Giant flying fortresses, a satellite, intercontinental missiles, that type of stuff, and a maglev spaceplane rail. You see the characters maybe five times total, so even if you hate the way they look it won't matter to you much.
AC:0 was a lot more fantastic than either, what with superlasers on both the ground and on a plane.

Never played an Ace Combat game (for various reasons) but I've always wanted to. Might pick this up, I guess. Sometime.

@Duh102: I didn't say I despise non-realism in a game (though it's good to have where I can find it) I despise a sci-fi based game jumping into the fantasy genre. For instance, I hear in AC5 there's a part where a sea goddess awakens and starts attacking you. I could be misreading and that could be something else in disguise, but that quote deterred me from buying the game.

Um, yeah. That never happened. It might be that something in the game is named after some sea goddess, but there are no sea goddess humanoid type things.
