Best PS2 games of all time?
So my older brother recently informed me of his nefarious plan to kidnap our PS3 when he goes to college, but not being a total ♥♥♥hole, he bought me a cheap PS2 on eBay that came with Mercenaries, MGS2, and the 3 GTA games (3, VC, SA) Of course, five games can only last a guy for so long, and seeing as a lot of PS2 games are ridiculously cheap now (under $10 per game, typically), he's also promised to buy a few more depending on how cheap they are.
Anywho, what would you guys recommend? What were some of your favorite PS2 games?

Re: Best PS2 games of all time?
Well, not all of these are PS2, but whatever.
Legend of Dragoon, of course, is amazing. But good luck finding a copy. Parasite Eve is also fantastic. The Bard's Tale is a pretty amusing game. If you haven't played through Kingdom Hearts 1&2, I'd recommend them. Final Fantasy X is probably the best Final Fantasy game, if you're into that. Armored Core 3 is worth checking out if you like mechs. Ever played through the Hitman games? Metal Gear Solid 3 is like, my favorite game for the PS2.
Hope these help a bit, just my recommendations.

This is usually a pretty decent list to go by.

Don't go into Hitman lightly. It's one of the hardest games I've ever played, and requires good planning and attention to detail. Get Final Fantasy X. You will NOT be disappointed with that game.

Re: Best PS2 games of all time?
A quick injection, I found AC:0 to be a rather large letdown from the emotion-charged AC:5. I still can't get over how amazing I felt when I played the last mission in AC:5, while all I remember about AC:0 is how much better they could have written the script to pull you in on the characters. While I'm on the topic, AC:6 suffered from an overabundance of support missions and again failure to include characters I cared about, not to mention some extra storyline that had nothing to do with what you did on missions. Admittedly, that storyline was interesting, and if it tied into your character in the plane it could have saved the game for me. All of them have great plane combat though, they're definitely worth your time and money.

Re: Best PS2 games of all time?
I am just going to list games I've played and remember having a good time with.
You'll notice lots of "was" and "did". Havent had ps2 in a while, and while I did have it, dickhead stepbro periodically went and sold my stuff at secondhands. Wtf.
so...
--- Metal Arms: Glitch in the system.
Nuff said.
MGS3, Ratchet & Clanks Stealth+pew+omgstory, pew+platforming.
I remember enjoying a certain Klonoa (Well of wishes or something.) on it a loo-ong time ago along with the first Jak&Daxter.
First PS2 games I played I think, those. Great platformers.
But those might not be hardcore enough for you all cool kids.
GoldenEye: Rogue Agent was a nice tunnel shooter to pass time with. Not much of bond in it though.
Battle Engine Aquila was pretty cool mech-fly-go-pew thing. Lots of pew. Pew I say. --
Most of them are pretty old, so it might be a bit hard to get a hold of those.

PS2, mang. But I don't know why you'd play it on that as opposed to PC.

Re: Best PS2 games of all time?
Soul Calibur III was my favourite game back in the day. While there were some glitches and balancing problems, you wouldn't notice them unless you played on a tournament level. The singleplayer, character design, and general layer of polish is the best in the series.
Timesplitters 3 has a nice, satisfying singleplayer as well as a nice splitscreen mode so you can shoot up your friends. The singleplayer is fairly light and pretty funny so it's good for relaxing.
Gran Turismo 4 is currently the best racing game available.
Suikoden Tactics is a really fun tactics game, though the plot and voice acting isn't great.
Suikoden III is a pretty good RPG, I thought it wasn't as good as 1 but all the reviewers give it like, 9 or more.
Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 are some of THE best games of all time, hands down. I know Disney/Enix sounds dumb, but just try it.
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal is great fun. Really polished 3rd person shooting platformer.
Bully is better than GTA anyday, IMO.
If you're into fighters, Sony consoles are the ONLY way to go. you can get Guilty Gear, Melty Blood, some Street fighters... All of which still have an active community.
You should look into some PS1 games, too. Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Jumping Flash 2 are both fun and cute platformers. Suikoden I is my favourite game of all time. It's an RPG with over a hundred characters (maybe about half that you can use in battles), and it manages to make me care more about each of them than I have for the main character of whole games.

Jak II was really fun and had a great story, but if you want a more sandboxy feel with more guns n ♥♥♥♥, get Jak III. Only con with that one was the story wasn't as good.
I liked Jak II more

Re: Best PS2 games of all time?
Thanks for all of the suggestions, guise. My list (for now at least) is pretty much as follows, based on your suggestions and some research, in order of preference;
MGS3 - Subsistence (I hear this added a new camera mode similar to MGS4's, along with some extra content, to the original Snake Eater) God Of War 2 (because it's better than 1, apparently) Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War (for greater pewpew zoomzoom jetfighting justice) Battlefield 2: Modern Combat (I vaguely remember playing through this, it was great fun. Has a "hotswap" feature that lets you take control of each individual soldier in every battle, somewhat akin to CC's body control) Resident Evil 4 (for a nice mix of blatblat and ohshi moments) Hitman: Blood Money (like the sound of the upgrade system/shop, and earning money for smoother hits) Silent Hill 2 (PYRAMID HEAD) Shadow Of The Colossus (everyone says it's great and fantastic, but I imagine it's also fairly short and lacks replay value, so eh) Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (lots of people claim it's the best of the PS2 series, with more content than Ratchet & Clank or Going Commando but retaining the humor and storyline that Deadlocked lacked) Burnout: Revenge (played the demo, massive carnage and over-the-top racing, oh fun)
