Re: Dwarf-DRL Fortress
Might as well, I have nothing else to do. You can always revert if I get everyone killed, right?
Anyways, yeah. would love to give it a shot. what, do we each have a week or something?
And what is everyones feeling on Danger Rooms? Some think they are an exploit, but I think fi you are risking your life in a trap-filled room for a half year, you had better come out badass.

Just make a bunch of traps jeeze. I'm building a ♥♥♥♥ wall once my turn rolls around. Have you made any armour? How many ≡Iron Spears≡ do we have? Just fling meagrely armed and armoured plebs at the problem until it goes away.

Re: Dwarf-DRL Fortress
Making my way over the mountains and through the canyons, I soon came to the end of my journey: The fortress of Razordaub. The fort was in shambles from a dangerous goblin siege, and I knew my skills where needed.
Barking orders to the few dwarves left, They looked surprised to see a human commanding them, but they soon understood the urgency of the situation and we began work.
A wall was commissioned, and the masons, fresh from their jobs from hauling and relieved of the task, began work.
Giving the order to abandon the old tunnels, I started carving a new entrance to our beloved fortress, one that would be truly great for our people. The dwarves where a bit amazed when I referred to dwarves as "Our people" but they soon realized the wisdom behind my words.
As Spring came to a close, the Elves cam. I was a bit cautious at first, but then I saw their main cargo: Two horses fully loaded with wood, and then, I saw the creatures they had tamed: a Giant leopard, and Elephant, and a Giant Cougar! I immediately traded a large load of stoneworks with them for all of their wood and the animals, which I chained by the gate to tear apart any enemy thieves that dare to trespass.
With such beautiful animals, I could hardly wait to see next year's cargo!
As the year continued, I ordered production of a massive tomb system in the new fortress for our dwarves, including the annoying hammerdwarf that keeps following me around everywhere. once the coffins where placed and the bodies entombed, however, the ghost smiled and vanished.
As the summer drew to a close, I realized the fortress was coming along nicely. As our briker came up to me to list out the available items for trade, I saw there was no less than FIVE HUNDRED stone items to be traded! Looking through our work records, I saw that someone, a predecessor perhaps, had set no less than FIFTEEN craftdwarf workshops to continuously produces stone crafts. I immediately ordered the halt of their construction, and sent several bins of them to be traded with the humans, who where rapidly approaching the new Depot, inside the secure gates of the new fortress.
As I started to deal with the humans, I noticed they carried several bushels of valley herb, the rare herb only found in a few locations. I decided to add it to the wood, cages, and supplies, including ale, that was to be bought with them. In return, I gave over double the items worth in stone trinkets, to get rid of the sheer amount we had. The human merchant was extremely pleased, and I hope for good trades next year.
Right as the humans left, we had an ambush on our hands! Working quick, I had the few militairy dwarves left in commision attack the goblins while the others ran inside. The death count was 25 dwarves when the dust settled, and many of the dwarves where on the verge of insanity... I was nervous. I also noticed with some sorrow that Dragonxp, dhart5k, and Foil, three of the original founders, where dead as well.
As we gathered the bodies and put them to rest, Dr. Tomaster, driven mad by the loss of his friends, ran down the hall screaming that he was a monkey, and started taking off his clothes and ran around babbling. The poor fool will undoubtedly doe of thirst soon; I have set aside a tomb for him with the other founders.
As we continued and Autumn came, Anti-elf went mad, running and diving into the well and drowning himself. We drained the well and placed his corpse into a tomb, where he will be with his friends, always. To my sadness, there is only one founder left.
As Autumn came, we sarted work on a mill, for making flour to feed our people. The mill set up beautifully, and as it was finished, one of the workers started screaming, and ran into the fortress. Only afterwords did I find out they had been possessed, and I went down to see what they where doing.
The worker grabbed several items, and started working on something odd, with a gleam in her eyes. i left her be, and went to help with the Mill once more, when another dwarf stopped me.
It seems my plans earlier, for a Danger Room, as I called it where complete. Three rows of training spears, set up to a lever that could be pulled by a dwarf. The purpose of this room was to train our dwarves in combat, and teach them the ways of the warrior. I immediately sent our commander and his single soldier in to train with their weapons, with a reassuring that they would be getting steel weapons and armor soon.
Suddenly, I heard a scream, and whipped around to see the worker holding a bone helmet in front of me. "What the... By Armok, what is this?" I explained her possession, and she handed me the Bone helm. "Find someone to use this 'ere thing. It is creepy tah me." I took it, and ordered it to be put with the armor stockpiles. Noone was worthy of wearing this beautiful artifact... Yet.
Once more the funeral bells tolled at the death of a dwarf... The last founder, Unwoundpath. I feel sadness... maybe if I had not come, they would not have died...
But I must persist. For the dwarves left here, I must continue this fortress.
The dwarven caravan arrived at the end of autumn, and with them, came the outpost liasion. We talked for a bit, and I told him to have them bring more lye next time, so we could make soap for dwarves to get clean with. While he seemed perplexed, he agreed whn I showed him the hundreds of stone crafts we had for him.
As winter began, I started construction of the Arena, where our training soldiers would go for live training. The goblins we captured where positioned in a cellblock close to the arena, and additional traps where placed at the gates of the fortress, a total of 50 cage traps, and 9 weapon traps with 3 steel serrated discs each. I almost cannot wait for the goblins who come next... I look forward to more prisoners for the arena.
*More coming soon*

Re: Dwarf-DRL Fortress
{Time for more work.} As winter continued on, a worker withdrew from society, claiming a workshop and gathering materials. I made sure to gather everything they needed, and then watched them get to work. After a few moments, he showed me his creation, a butifully cut satdonix, which I told him to keep safe. We also finished the roads, which allow traders to more easily reach the fortress. As my time at this fortress came to an end, I looked back over my work: I have started up a very string steel industry. We have 400 coal, 99+ Iron and tons of pig iron and steel. Keep this going, start making steel furniture, trinkets, and steel everything. Make everyone happy with some awesomely crafted stuff. I made sure to use Therapist. I STRONGLY suggest you don't modify what I have set up, even though I have a lot of dwarves idle. The idle dwarves, when you tell them to dump objects or move something, will immediately and quickly do what you need. Each dwarf has a job, and when they aren't doing it they are in the dining halls. The dump pile is right next to the mason workshops on the second floor. I have been using it to pretty much create a quantum stone pile and not have to worry about stupid stone everywhere. I strongly recommend everyone else do the same. The gates are on a lever activation process. the one on the bottom, as the pic says, controls the outer gates, while the one insde controls the inner gates. Both gates are independent. I have cleared most of the top ramps down onto the ledge overhanging the fort so no goblins can shoot down, and walled off ways to get to the ledge as well. if you wanted to you can gather plants and chop trees up there in relative safety. I STRONGLY suggest to kmake sure I got everything from the old abandoned fortress and then seal it of. There is a wall that will nto construct no matter what and if one flying forgotten beast comes we will be in deep ♥♥♥♥. The Danger room is training 4 dwarves in combat. I have plenty of steel items waiting though, so feel free to recruit more soldiers. MAKE SURE TO PUT THEM ON PERMANENT DUTY. Once they become Lords from the Danger room (About 1-2 years of training in there) they will get HAPPY thoughts from being on duty. Also, be SURE to ALWAYS set the lever to "Pull the lever" on repeat so the spears always go up and down while the dwarves are training. BE CAREFUL WITH CHECKING INVENTORY! It randomly crashes when they have a ton of things carried or something. I lost a few hours of play time with that. And finally, good luck. I have sorted everything out enough to give you guys a head start. I say go for adamantine! Ah yes, I took some liberties with the visuals. If you want to switch them back, simly take the raws folder from the player before me and overwrite the raws in there. HOWEVER IF YOU DO THE WIERD NAMES WITH BLOCK IN THEM WILL COME BACK! So I strongly suggest you deal with it. If the next player has any questions I get on and check this forum nearly every hour or so so just pop in a message. And finally, the save: http://www.mediafire.com/?98o713fvpj4i6zo
