Make them hammerdwarves, that's the real way to fight.

Anyway, I'm going to see if I can get myself a pump-based mist machine. Using lots of marksdwarves is considered an exploit, since their bolts do piercing damage which basically overrides all armor, and manages to pierce both their legs, their hand, left lung, seven fingers and right eye in one shot. I think this will be fixed in the next release, as bodies will then have proper bodily layers (skin, muscle, bone), but I don't know if armour is considered as a layer though, but armour definitely seems to be be taken into consideration in combat: "The most significant addition today was an overall notion of a "square" shot, so that, say, a crossbow bolt can hit full force but just not break a bone because it didn't have a line on the center of the part." "The materials seem to be working well, and an armored, well-trained human with a maul was able to take on 20 [groundhogs] at a time without being injured. Three tiger took care of that, though." release should be soon, there's only one feature to finish then just a few tests/fixes... but toady has the flu and has not been working on DF for the past week or so and he's not working on it till he's fully recovered.

Armor and clothing are considered layers ( inferred from DFTalk 6 ) , the more you wear, the more you are protectorated. If the square shot hits the bone, I'm rooting for it to be stuck in. Oh, and by the way I finished my battle tower, you can shoot them as they go down that corkscrew, I'm still shaky if a wagon caravan can go through the entryway and if the the marksdorfs can actually shoot the hostile entities in the entryway... What is cool is that you can flood this entryway with magma, and since it can't pressurize, the dorfs will be safe! :D It's like Project FTW, except you can easily drain it, and dorfen casualties should be lower.

I've been messing around in adventure mode lately.
Too fun playing as megabeasts.

This was made in DFPaint nub-nuggets, and the second frame was made with a ♥♥♥♥ mirror effect... Besides, the thing was made to accommodate entities of sizes 3x4x1 ( wlh, units in squares ) and under.

Awesome game, though, unfortunately, Megabeasts' effects don't work in Adventure mode, AFAIK.

Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
So the area I embarked upon for my 3rd-ish fortress "Deathdoor" had a river and a mountain. The river was on top of the mountain. Hijinks involving floodgates at the top of the mountain and floodgates at the entrance to my fortress ensued. Sadly, I had read incorrectly that there was a lava tube about, so I could not pump it up and flood the world with searing magma, but water works as well as long as you leave it going long enough.
In addition, a goblin raider attacked a trader right in front of my fortress, and all his goods spilled out for my taking. It was a fine day in Deathdoor, though all of the food rotted away. I have plenty of fish though (350 for 14 dwarves), so I'm fine.

I had about 50 dwarves when I ran out of ways to feed them and they all starved and started to kill each other. It was fun.

Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
Update on Deathdoor. Whilst constructing the path for a waterfall, one of my two legendary miners, Kubuk Oboktholest, was struck down by falling debris. His lover and fellow legendary miner, Asmel Logemuker, suffered a mangled right upper leg in the same accident, and is now bedridden, though she is expected to make a full recovery as she has extreme toughness. A bowyer who was doing nothing useful is now my next miner-in training, and work on the pumps for the now-completed waterfall are in progress. I'm going to use a closed water source to hopefully cut down on splash.
