Re: D&D and such
Ahahaha oh lord. Epic story. Was playing an Evil Cleric (♥♥♥♥ Yeah) and had infiltrated a small fishing town no one really gave two shits about. They didn't even have a temple. Spread the less evil teachings of Nerull under the guise of Pelor. Did good deeds healed the crops, watered the elderly y'know, act like a real goody two-shoes. So anyways, some pirates come around and try to intimidate the town into giving its meager wealth. a few guys come on shore and I rallied the townspeople to fight back, backing them with the idea Pelor would smite his enemies. Anyway, as the 4 or so guys run back to their boat I take out my flask of Alchemist's Fire as 14 archers start marching up from below deck. I throw one thing at the door that leads below, and another next turn at the mast. Hit perfectly BOTH times. Made an encounter that might have lasted 45 minutes or more last all of 6 minutes. So now this whole town wants to suck me off, thinking I am a priest of Pelor and the savior/champion of their town, which sounds suspiciously like Amsterdam. Being an evil chessmaster is pretty ballin' yo'

Re: D&D and such
So I'm switching my campaign over to 4th edition from 3.5 due to the simplifications and the bear lore. Luckily, none of the players have played D&D before now, so no problems with familiarity. They're also pretty low level. What should I do to make the transition smoother?

Kill yourself for choosing an edition with such horrifying alignment restrictions.

Re: D&D and such
might want to consider what kind of campaign your doing depending on 3.5 or 4.(usually 3.5 is more magical whereas 4 is more mystical) personally i dislike 4.0 for changing everything that i liked about 3.5 but for new players a see no problem.

Re: D&D and such
I have had no experience with 4e, though I have heard very mixed things about it. To answer your question as best I can though I have two things to say; 1) If they have never played before, wouldn't there not be so much of a transition so much as them just learning 4e off the bat? 2) http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/3392221/ If 3rd graders can understand 4e than I am sure your players can. Continuation of the teacher's story: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/3426987/There has yet to be another update, but I think this guy is awesome. I would have loved to have played D&D instead of doing work.

Aspasia wrote: 3rd graders can understand 4e than I am sure your players can ...you have absolutely no idea just how ominous that statement is... I'm also switching because it needs to be simple enough to play over IRC. The character sheets alone are a mess.

Re: D&D and such
Actually char sheets can be done better online. You can't ctrl+f with pen and paper. Look at Demetrius's http://sites.google.com/site/bjorntheskald/

Yeah, save that I have no software. And while I use the pathguy generator, none of my players can save a webpage.

Re: D&D and such
Based on the whole "3rd graders" thing being ominous and you saying your players do not know how to copy and paste, are you playing with your little brother and his friends or something?

Re: D&D and such
doing dnd over the internet is a bad idea.(tried it once and it quickly became difficult) so why are you doing it over irc? having everyone around a table with dice and books(or a computer) is much more fun than over irc.
