Blizzard and Westwood both churn out in my opinion the best of RTS games.

Re: Discussion: best RTS game.
I'm just going off what good old RTS games I own. Haven't really found one worth buying since WC3 Frozen Throne. Then again, my focus is on other styles of gaming at the moment.

Re: Discussion: best RTS game.
the Age of Empires series was an excellent game, it got a lot more people into videogames, like the sims franchise did. Starcraft and Warcraft are my personal favs, blizzard know how to make games. Starcraft 2 looks good.
Surpreme commander is too boring... and all the armies are the same. Oh, and LAN is screwed. Lame.
I haven't played any of the C&C games.

Brand loyalty will let you down in the end, Westwood employee's mostly left to form Petroglyph I believe, but I may be wrong... Petroglyph did make Empire at War, which was quite fun. I've only just gotten into sins of a solar empire, and I swear if they made the space combat equal to Empire at war in their RT4X game, it would be the best space RTS ever.

Re: Discussion: best RTS game.
Turns out Red Alert 3 comes out later this month, and is the best RTS of all time.
Guess there's no more need for this thread, oh well.

Unless it has a dynamic cover system and fully destructible everything with full ragdoll physics and gibs, then I'm gonna stick with Company Of Heroes.
And for the 3rd time would you guys PLEASE post your Relic Online names.

Re: Discussion: best RTS game.
Command and Conquer 3 is my current favorite, but I'm trying Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War right now. I like it's focus on squad to squad combat. Too many RTS games attempt to have macro and micro management, making me feel like I'm overwhelmed. With WH40K, the battles are smaller in scale but much, much more in-depth. Zerg-rushers need not apply. Unfortunately, this takes out a bit of the overarching strategy bit. I generally rely on a squad or two to hold my front lines and have one squad conquering further out. CNC3 gives me the chance to play tactics. WH40K is checkers, CNC3 is chess. Both excellent games, and related, but lightyears apart.

I got C&C3 Tiberium Wars on my Xbox 360. I ♥♥♥♥ hated it.
Repetitive, Boring missions. Basically dead online community. I'm going to sell it on ebay.

My recent addiction has been Battleships Forever. Yet another indie game in beta that has a strong modding community.

Re: Discussion: best RTS game.
I haven't installed C&C3 on my laptop yet... considering that a good amount of ire I had was due to sluggishness and general hardware issues, I'll give it a second go-round on a machine that actually satisfies recommended requirements. Which reminds me, I picked up Galactic Civilizations 2. Again, it's turn based, and borrows heavily from the Civilization series, enough so that the term "Civilization in Space" quite adequately sums it up. If you like the Civ series, give it a look - the graphics follow Stardock's mandate of "must run on any conceivable machine" (aka undercut the budget department), but the game design is really quite amazing. And it's cheap like ramen.
