Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
Question, do you guys prefer a spot with a river? The benefits are obvious, but so is massive performance loss.

I do, but because I like to have water shenanigans. If I didn't want waterfalls in my great hall I wouldn't care.

I always pick spots with rivers, and never have lag. Might be for some other reason though.
Have you guys ever tweaked your dwarf move rates? I did it once for a laugh and god damn it its unbalanced. Dwarfs moving at FTL Speeds aint fun.

I like em, mainly because my CPU can handle it.

I embarked in a sinister biome, yet haveonly seen one skeleton so far. It's the beggining of my 2nd year. Is this normal? Also, sorry for bump.

Same thing, sinister mountains, nothing undead so far, 2nd year summer I think. Maybe it's just bad luck. No wait, that's a good thing. Also, this dev log sounds really fun: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/

I was actually kinda hoping for the famed undead elephants. I also have a swordsdwarf and marksdwarf squad too. Due to problems with marksdwarf training, they train by hunting.
EDIT : Also, large iron serrated discs are worth more than 1000 urists. That's just a normal one too.

FTL Dwarves by setting there speed to 0 in the raw files.
LAG. But looks awesome, like if your watching a time lapse of a forts development.

The thing to keep in mid is the sinisterness of an area is measured by two factors, savegery and evilness. You can find them in the search. Your area is probably hella evil with low savagery, so there are very few wild beings to come and kill you.

We should get some community fortress stuff going.
And when the inevitable happens, export it into Minecraft.

I might contribute. It is rather tempting to do so.

I took that in mind with my new fort. It's got a river, no aquifer, freezing, and has high evil and savagery.
