And there are GOLDEN STATUES! Also, my well has artifact mechanics. EDIT: As the hunter Athel Sinsotgusil (Clawcopper) came back to the fortress, carrying the hoary marmot's body, he noticed that the fortress was bustling with activity like an ants' den. He walked through the golden entrance hall just to find that everyone was running to and from the trade depot. He walked through the barracks as he took the shortcut and heard one soldier talking about how he "bashed the elf's skull inside his brains with the shaft of his spear". He threw the hoary marmot to the pile of bones, skulls and horns and walked straight to the legendary dining room. There he saw the major. He was looking dissappointedly at the barrel he was carrying back to the food store. Athel walked to him and asked about the bust of activity. The major answered: " We just raided an elven caravan, nothing unusual. They just had a little more stuff with them than normally." Then he walked away muttering about the low quality of elven drinks. Athel walked to drink some Dwarven Beer and pickup more bolts as the 4 hunting dogs and their puppies followed him.THE END

   |   Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a threadI stopped enjoying DF when DF 2010 came out.So I switched back, and now I have a wonderful map and am enjoying myself profusely.
Still no goblins though. GET IN HERE YOU LITTLE PUKES! MAKE MY GAME INTERESTING!

EDIT: It's not possible for goblins to die out during worldgen... Is it?

   |   Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a threadI didn't like DF 2010 at first, but that was because it was nigh impossible to kill anything as a dwarf. After he fixed it I'm having a great time since you're guaranteed magma on every map, as well as lots of caverns. Farming is a little harder, but once you have irrigation down it's not difficult at all, and you can avoid irrigation altogether if you forgo the surface and become a cave-dwelling race.
I'm proud to announce that my fort has 6 legendary engravers. We have a lot of smoothed stone to thank for that.

   |   Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a threadI love the little surprises the gave gives you.I just check an obsidian millstone artifact someone made, and it shows a depiction of the founding of my fortress. The name of the fortress? Ledzagod, or for those who don't speak Dwarvish, Rackgripped.
 My fortress is named Boobgrab.

Also mleh, water (for mud) is pretty easy to come by in most situations. The fact that you have buckets from the get go makes underground farms pretty easy to set up too, with the whole pit/pond irrigation system (no floodgates involved!) Also, I like DF 2010 a lot more than all the old version. The new military system is AWESOME as is medicine.

   |   Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a threadNah, the muddied caverns far below. Also somehow when I made a new obsidian generation chamber and solidified my first batch, it continued to cave in for about three minutes, pausing each time, before revealing a perfectly formed floor of obsidian. I'm not sure what was caving in...

I love being able to repair broken dwarves. **** gets real if you have no gypsum, though. On an unrelated sidenote, my current fortress's doctor is a one-eyed female with motor nerve damage. She actually healed people quite well, until an ice wolf bit a few of her fingers off. She's currently been treated by the miner, who's got absolutely no medicine experience, and sharing a floor tile (because we have no beds) with the expedition leader, who's been braindead for three months due to an infected thumb, which we could not clean because all of the water sources are frozen. He's also become attached to every single piece of clothing he's wearing, and some that other people are. Up above (since everyone lives in a single hole in the ground), the carpenter is killing trolls and polar bears with his bare hands, since the militia commander, who has our only axe, has been having some trouble standing later due to the fact that both his feet are broken. Oh, and a blizzard man ate one of his kidneys. The best part is, we're still at the Fall of year 1. This is my best fortress ever.

   |   Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a threadSounds like you're having a lot of Fun Areku.
I am saddened that Obsidian is currently bugged. You can't make anything with it unless you modify the raws to get rid of it's max_edge property (unless you have an exposed layer of it already on the map). Now my obsidian forge is useless until further updates D:

   |   Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a threadApparently, obsidian is not listed in the stones menu in stocks, so you can't toggle it to be used for building or only for listed tasks. By default, for some reason it's reserved for listed tasks that don't exist, and since you can't change that you can't set it to be used for everything else. I tried it, it didn't work for me, but apparently deleting the Max_Edge property resets it to be able to be used for building.

   |   Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a threadWhat? Lemme check that... Golly, you're right. There goes my infinite stone factory. Also, ice wolves. FFFFF. MAN THE CATAPULT! EDIT: Well that was unexpected. A wood burner punched them all into my 4 Z-level moat. With a single punch. EDITEDIT: No wait. He didn't punch the last one. He threw him. By his back tooth.
