Well, I started to play this after a long pause and my hunter refuses to pick up a crossbow and ammunition.
Damnit.

♥♥♥♥ hunting, that's for once you've got a military and can just drop a kill order on an animal you're planning on eating. Farms, good man!

Here's what you do. Next time a caravan comes through, let em in, have them set up in your Depot, and then, deconstruct it. You'll have more food of every kind than you'll be able to store away before it rots. And a metric assload of useless crap that you sell to the elves for strawberry wine before dropping them into your lava pit that any self respecting fortress has.

I know the deconstruction exploit, but it's kinda unfair. I play my fortresses without cheating. Also, I'm not a great architecht so I prefer to shoot the point blank in them face with a ballista.

Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
Mleh, I'm usually more direct when it comes to stealing stuff. Procedure for elven caravan arriving: s -> a -> k -> r -> designate all the elves -> wait 3 seconds -> dump all the useless wooden crap and the bodies down a chasm or somewhere in the mine. I can't be bothered with lava for the most part.

Well, if my Siege Operators fail I usually charge them head-on with my axedwarves.

So witch graphic pack is best now a days? I'm done with college tomorrow, so I'll be needing a distraction.

Mike Mayday's Graphical Edition is arguably the best. You can resize the window, too. http://mayday.w.staszic.waw.pl/df.php

And here is Maydays graphics that works with the newest version .10 http://www.mediafire.com/?2hwdzbmnzygThis one is with the game included. The one Natti linked is for the old .08.

Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
It's the official Mayday's site. I won't be using any unofficial versions 'cause you can be sure they are missing some of the mods that the DFG has.
Although they are nothing gameplay-altering. Resizable windows and what stones your dwarves use, I guess. Through the "Stones" screen.

Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
You never realize how soul crushing this game is until you come back to a ♥♥♥♥ of a fortress that's already in progress after months of not playing.
