I tried it and it is true. Elven caravans are like black holes. They just don't suck everything in.

Just started my first fortress, there are a crapload of stones wherever you mine, I had to dig a huge room just to stockpile them all in.

Don't bother.
Just set an activity zone next to your mason's workshop and mark it as garbage dump. Then mass dump every stone you want out of the way with d-b-d. You'll have infinite room for stone in one tile.

I made a fort by a Volcano, though I can't figure out how to access the lava safely without having to worry about lava jerks, or without killing the miner. Help?
