Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
Magma is ALWAYS Guarnateed, ANYWHERE, ANYHOW, its just harder to find because it fills the bottom layer. Volcanoes are ^, and they're the only surface magma available. volcanoes are also buggy, they are the same shape all way up, contiuing past the mountain in some cases. There's generally a top floor, but your dwarves can't always reach it.
EDIT: MOFO, new page!
Adamantium can also be found in the great magma seas, as can the HAPPYFUNSTUFF, including new procedually generated FUN STUFF. Basically, that means the FUN STUFF is random, and giant 50-ton snowballs are not impossible. It also has been given a MASSIVE buff in the new version.

Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
I have a feeling my fortress defenses will be sufficient for a while. I've got my courtyard walled in by a double layered wall filled with water, so if they bring trolls, the high pressure water coming from screw pumps should keep them busy when they bust down a water filled wall. I also have a retractable bridge over a pit about 5-6 Z levels deep. And Floodgates on the walls where they intersect with the bridge, so I can open the bridge, fill my pits with enemies, fill it with water, then close the bridge and wait for them all to die. All this because I can't figure out the military.

So the military isn't fixed yet?

Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
I think training is still screwed, and over all it's just too ridiculously complex for my tastes.
EDIT:... Say what you will about the elves, but when you kill them and steal their trade goods, turns out that those mofos carry a LOT!

Uh, no, it was actually never broken. The thing is, if you set the minimum number of training dwarves above your squad size, they'll forget to stop training, because there'll never be enough people to complete it.

Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
Oh. Well it's still a bit too complex for me to care enough to wade through, so I'll be taking the cursed route of trapping the hell out of my fortress.

To get the military to work, just delete all orders, and in their idle time they will do individual combat drill.
Order them to kill things with s-a-k-Enter
Also, is the DF succession thread dead now or wot?

Equipping is difficult but doable.

I don't have any problems with training or equipment. I've got six dorfs and they all use the equipment i want. Have you designated a room for training and equipment?

I haven't played since release. Maybe I'll give it another go in a bit. I had tonnes of glitches when I played.

Wow. That's... impractically valuable. Though the new immigrant system will at least give you skilled immigrants instead of an influx of haulers.

Although my first seven are so leveled by then that they end up as haulers anyways

Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
Before you kill elven traders, keep in mind that they have an APPALLINGLY large amount of crap. JESUS, MY ENTIRE FORTRESS IS STILL HAULING.
EDIT: Christ, that was the worst move I've ever made, killing that elven trader.
