Have fun with the tantrum spiral when two of them get killed, then the rest go berserk because they're all friends.

An "accident" involving cavein's has left several of my dwarves dead. I didn't realize that they are actually deadly now, as opposed to the minor pain in the ass of before.

Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
I forgot to mention this before.
A month or so ago, I had a great fort going, perhaps my best yet. Things were nice and dandy, I had just destructed a trade depot so I could claim the goods, I had legendary masons, and 7 legendary miners. Well, my weaver went berserk after getting into a Fey Mood, probably because he lacked the resources to make them. So, I had a few casualties. I had not yet made a grave site for my dwarves, so I figured it was time.
As is dwarven tradition, I started digging down as far as I could, until I discovered a cavern! How wonderful I thought it was, so many different minerals and rocks, I'd be set for life. Well, before I did that I had some business to attend to, and I figured that I couldn't build my burial chamber there anymore. So, I built an alcove and stuck my bodies in there.
Well, first came the gremlins. A few gremlins attacked, but luckily I had my military set up and I managed to scare them off. I thought that was bad, so I went to close up the floors, I places floors, walls, etc. It was good for a while, until I started getting messages of people being interrupted by something... but what could have gotten through my barricades?! I zoomed to the location, and found Trolls eating my dead brethren.
Well, that was bad, the walls were covered in vomit and blood, and the trolls killed a few dwarves, so I sent in my two squads after it. The benny hill chase led outside, where my squads of 20 dwarves finally mauled her to death. Then I got more problems. Zoom... damn. Another Troll eating my dead dwarves. I sent my squads to kill him, and this benny hill chase led to my storage area, where the Troll kept running in circles. Of course, I had all of my dwarven ale, beer, wine, everything in the storage area. so, my thirsty dwarves would come down looking for a drink and then go "OMG A TROLL!" and run away.
After 10 minutes of this, I got tired. my dwarves were about to die of thirst, so I took actions and maneuvered my squads so that I cornered the beast and killed it. Much drinking ensued. At this point the body count was up, and I had to bury more bodies, and hey, some vacancies have just appeared since the trolls came by.
I decided to rid the caverns of all of these horrible creatures, so I started mining. for some reason, not only did the miners go down there, but most of my dwarves decided to start cleaning webs down there as well. So, when I started to dig, as you could figure, a cave-in occured.
My dwarves mostly died. My Legendary Stone Worker? Dead. My Legendary Gem Cutter? Dead. My Legendary Miners and their babies? Mostly dead. All-in all it was pretty horrible, some tantrums started, etc., not too bad. Well, tow of my miners had been married and had a child, the mother was dead, and the baby was wandering around looking for a way out. The father, close by, gets close to death, and through various traumas, goes berserk. He runs at his baby, kills it, and immediately dies.
At this point my dwarves were down from 69 to 52. Bad. Well, one miner survived. One, last, good miner to get things done. Legendary, Strong, Tough, Agile. He could do all of the mining himself. Good, right? Wrong. Those 7 starting dwarves were all miners, they all knew each other well. So, this dude's 6 friends just died. What does he do? He goes berserk. I immediately send my squads at him, and he kills 4 of them on the spot. He runs at a child, kills him, then starts massacring my War Dogs. The rest of the squads arrive, and he mows down almost all of them before he falls into unconsciousness.
At this point, I'm screwed. 39 of my dwarves died, leaving with 30 dwarves. No miners. Most of my remaining dudes are cheesemakers and farmers. Wonderful. Then, guess what? More Trolls decide to join the party.

So get your guys to grab some axes and maces and go ♥♥♥♥ them up in a few months while you wall/dig in for the time being? Or does poor diddums hyperkultra not know how to turtle in DF yet?

Enjoy not only your lost hell metal, but the incoming kobold invaders, who are actually decently good at killing you in 2010.

I'd better start making some traps.

And one ballista.

Dogs are hilariously bad in the new version. You're lucky if they pierce skin.

I've got an outlandish idea for an outer wall consisting of two walls, maybe a couble of floodgates, and a LOT of lava.

Fill the world with giant axe blades? Or serrated discs?
EDIT: Foxes are too fast to hunt. Damnit.
EDIT: Goblin Swordsman named Damsto Evilbanner. Tee hee hee.
EDIT: If it includes LOTS AND LOTS of LAVA/MAGMA then it is good. Magma is always good. Lava is always good too.
