Re: Game Nostalgia Thread
Oh man, i can't believe that Doom only has been mentioned once. Damn near impossible to play without a mouse, but with a mouse it's really good. Doom was back when regular enemies could swipe off 60 ♥♥♥♥ PERCENT OF YOUR HEALTH IN ONE ATTACK. While brutal, it was part of the fun to avoid getting shot, blasted, clawed and blown up. Especially by those damn Cyberdemons. Very evil, those. One rocket to the face either kills or critically injures you, but these guys don't just let do with one. They just HAVE to fire them in volleys of three. I think it may be my nostalgia that makes me like the game so much. >.>
Also, Quake. The first one. Not quite as brutal as Doom when it comes to damage taken, but you still take plenty and there aren't always medkits around. If you don't play on Easy, expect many quicksaves and quickloads. Plus, the bosses (mission packs get) are awesome and way harder than one expects. I've found myself taking 2 rockets square in the face from one of them before realizing that i had to dodge something.
Both games have a rather thin story, but heck, i love mindless shooting.
Other nostalgia-inducing games include: - Abuse - Secret Agent - Descent 2 - Cyborg Justice - Battletoads (OSDIFH hard never got past level 3 out of like 14)

Re: Game Nostalgia Thread
I had a pacman clone where you could shoot cookies at the ghosts on a floppy but then I accidentally erased it then came "BOOM" on a macworld cd-rom (bomberman clone with enemies from hell) and that was awesome. Later I got Young's Modulus and a vector tank game that I can no longer find on the internet due to it having been made into an iphone app (if anyone can find the original please link me) Young's modulus was like mechwarriors but uglier behold the ulgyness.

Total Annihilation, just setting up tons of long range artillery cannons and letting them loose on the enemy base was awesome. Nice music too. I still dig it up and play it from time to time.
