If you are new to the game, try learning from this tutorial: http://afteractionreporter.com/2009/02/09/the-complete-and-utter-newby-tutorial-for-dwarf-fortress-part-1-wtf/

Explains pretty much everything.

You sure that you are digging into a wall?

It's getting marked?

I recall my first time playing dorf fortress.

"Why is nothing happening? Stupid game."

3 months later...

"Oh god I am stupid." (after watching the tutorial I mentioned.)

The thing about the colosus is correct. About 40 dwarves with 100 adamantine bolts did nothing. Neither did another colosus equiped with full adamantine armor and an addy 2 handed sword. Jesus.

My internet data cap has been exceeded for days due to my brother's rampant torrenting.
Thus, a humble 6MB download takes just under 1 hours. This annoys me.

Yeah I had about a million adamantium plated Iron Men with 2handers or Hammers and they were able to cut off its hands, feet, ear and nose, shatter its eyeballs, and severely damage every other part of him, but no kill. They just died and died and died. I don't even know what the colossus was doing at that point.

Actually, adamantine hammers suck now because they now work via weight, and adamantine is practically weightless.

Same deal with the bolts. You'd probably have done more damage with platinum bolts. Nonetheless, bronze collosi are essentially invincible unless you can straight off cut the thing in half or decapitate it. However, no normal weapons in the game by default can do that. Artifacts, engineered traps, siege weapons and magma all probably work.

Encase in magma. Problem solved.

Actually, dragonfire can melt them, as well.
Although hordes of Fire Imps aren't effective archers.

Edit:

Sorted.

But they just encircle them and do nothing. You are a fail squad.
