Wow, looks like I should really stop posting late into the night O_o That's two slip-ups in two days, including the massive one on Pixelation.

I've been doing some thinking while I've been away (but not too much) and I've made a few decisions about where I'm going with Minefield, but I feel that I need to polish the character movement more, there are still some clunky situations. Running up a ledge works marvellously now but there are some situations (particularly climbing) that need some more attention.

I'm wondering whether to just get the procedural mechanic working first though. It'll really give the game a lot more longevity and it should be somewhere in the vicinity of painless. I'll think about it some more now, but I'm tired as hell; I'm not sure I'll get much done tonight...

Hey I wonder what this is... (Backup Link)

THATS RIGHT ITS A RvR MAP MAKER

Due to what I 'programmed' it in (multimedia fusion) larger maps can really slow down the program...
BUT IT CAN SAVE
AND ACTORS WORK

But no decorations... yet

Hotkeys:
1-9, -: dirt
W: Block
E: Horizontal Girder
R: Vertical Girder
TYU: Floor tiles
Q: Bunker Background
ASDFGH: Dirt Background
Z: Add Actor

Click and drag an actor to move it, double click to change its type/team, double right-click to delete.

Planned crap:
Loading maps
Undo/Redo
Decorations
Zoom
Help File
Optimization (hopefully)
Scroll wheel to change tiles
Metadata
Appending maps to txt files (for games with multiple maps)

PS: the saved maps can't be entered in as-is, you need to get the Metadata and add that in.

Wow, cheers MLC. I'll throw those links up onto the blog and edit them into the mapmaking guide after I test the editor a little :)

EDIT: 3RD PARTY GRAPHICAL EDITOR ALERT yo bloglink.

Damn, beaten to the post!
Ah well, I've not time to look at how you've done it, but well done. :)

Prevising for starting school again next year has been eating up much of my thought time, and I've obviously had very little time to do any actual coding, and most of that has gone towards my game, despite the fact that the chances of getting a prototype up-and-running before term starts next year are dwindling. :-(

Anyway, congrats, and hope to see much more from 1Bar and its associates.

Because it's not worth a devlog post yet, I've been working on player movement a little, trying to iron out some of the bugs that're likely coming from float-to-int casts without flooring numbers or things of that nature. I'm hoping to get a good amount of work done today, but my hopes of having it finished by wednesday are all but dwindling, as I've still got to:
  • make a few edits to the map loading system, allowing for differing music each stage
  • make a zone select menu and the unlock system therein
  • reorganise the menus, build options screen.
  • create a corpse and gibbing system (planning on doing this today as it's been holding me back)
  • build a pretty credits screen
  • animation tweaks
  • some decor and tile content creation
  • level production proper
  • integrate playtomic
  • short beta testing phase
  • ->FGL

God, I'm putting that list somewhere within sight now. It's note as bad as I expected, most of those are 1-2 hour chunks.

Alpha 2! (mirror)

-Loading
-Undo (no Redo)
-Magnifying Glass (Scroll Wheel)
-Fixed map size limits
-Added About
-Added Save As...

Still struggling with Decorations, primarily the color tinting. (Mind sharing details about that, Geti? X_X )
(The image files would be nice too. ;_; )

Some more shots here, and some updates!

It all looks so much better in action but I'm not giving out an alpha, sadly. I should definitely take a trailer video soon though, showing some of the various sections of the game.. If I can I'll also scan some of my sketches and put them up to make the design doc a little less... Square looking <_<

The new shots, for lazy people:

Image
Here's the player chasing one of his papers, and a sign telling you how to jump, how exiting! Yeah, I'm re-using some edited versions of the RvR trees at the moment while I draft other content.

Oh dear, dead, though not exploded. I've still got to throw some overlays over the death screen and figure out how to make those backgrounds look less mistakable for foregrounds when moving quickly, but its a small matter, and easy to tweak.

The title for that page still says Robot V Robot. ;)
I was tempted to fix it myself in a vigilante fashion, but I figured that would be unnecessary.

I want to see this in action, as it can look a little confusing with the GB palette, but I'm sure that isn't an issue in motion.

Nice catch, fixed.

I'm going to need testers for the Beta through RC versions later on but for now there's so many holes everywhere I'm keeping it to myself ;)

That said, working on a proper "Zone Complete" screen now.

A very large and symultaneously fairly small update on the forums. Details on that paradox inside.

Essentially you get cool barcodes and can see what's happening where, and threads will be burned at the stake whenever other threads are doing better.
