Re: WH40k discussion
I was actually considering picking up some tau to ally with my guardsmen.
So maybe.

Honestly, I just want something else to break up painting guard and that I can use with my army. Have you ever tried painting ten guardsmen in one sitting? It get's a little annoying. Although admittedly spess mehrines or chayos spess mehreens would be more effective to use. We'll see. I don't even know how allies work yet.

Also, if I'm not wrong, I saw some images on the games-worshop webpage which had some Auxiliary Tau Troops, which were Fire Warriors with Guardsmen heads and legs. They looked quite awesome if you ask me.

Mother of sweet conversion! I saw this image on games workshop: Anyway so, I just noticed what you meant with allies, I just read some of the article. So, you can actually have a mixed list?

Re: WH40k discussion
As of 6th edition, yeah. Since it's not actually out yet we don't know the exact rules though.
I hope you don't need to have an HQ unit to have troops though, because it would be nice to have something tougher than my guardsmen to draw some fire. Like Spess Mehrines.

Re: WH40k discussion
When I get my Taus, I'm totally getting some tough dudes. Space Marines and they power armor look interesting to block hits on the more fragile Fire Warriors, or even some Eldar.
EDIT:
Forget the Eldar, a couple of Grey Knights and I'm done.

Re: WH40k discussion
There's a list of who can ally with who here, if you like. I think the coolest unit to get for Imperial Guard allies would be a squad of grey knights. The most interesting for Tau would be Dark Eldar.

Re: WH40k discussion
I don't know the Dark Eldar enough to say they'd be a good team.
But Guardsmen and Grey Knights? That's a good combo.

Re: WH40k discussion
Specially after seeing some awesomely painted models, usually with air brushes and ancient oriental techniques, I wouldn't paint one because those Knights would look so bad that they'd look like Chaos Marines.

http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Wa ... y-Set.htmlI want this so bad. If the new allies rules prove themselves not too silly I may even get them in order to join up with my spess muhreens.

Re: WH40k discussion
As cool as those figures are (and mantic games in general) I don't like them. It seems like they have so much upper body armor, and yet they wear like, normal pants. It just seems so top-heavy.
