It sucks and is not worth buying. Consider procuring it and trying it before you buy. The reviews of the actual gameplay are not good, but the critical reception to some of its more unique gameplay aspects is pretty positive.

I think it's worth buying, especially if you have friends who have it or if you get it for console (By which I mean PS3).
The weapons system is pretty fun, finding interesting new weapons like Mashers or Rocket Launchers that fire their whole clip at once always gives me a good feeling.
The shooting mechanics are, if pretty standard, still solid, and if you enjoy the usual "move reticule to head and press fire" type stuff, then you'll find Borderlands pleasing in a "video game numb" sort of way.
Skill tree adds depth, re-specing for different strategies is cool.
Multiplayer is a blast. Taking down big Badasses and divvying up (or hogging all of) the spoils is a great experience.

I mean, the game certainly isn't perfect, but it's worth a try.

Also MLC, I don't notice much swearing. Depends on which char you play, I guess.

I'm on the fence; maybe I'll rent it to see for myself.

This novelty can't really be worth $50 or more to you, can it?

And there is a difference between "worth buying" and "worth a try." Rent it (with no return period) first to see if you like it. Chances are you will get bored with it very quickly. There is little to no actual replay value here.

I'm a little more interested in the multiplayer than whatever campaign it may have, since, I don't know, about half the people on here seem to play it? I'll never run out of people to play it with if I get it... but it might suck. Rent it is, and even if I do like it I'll just put it on my price tracker and wait for it to go below 25 or 30 dollars.

Problem is a lot of us probably appropriated the PC edition. Can PC and console versions even interact with another?

Good question, my computer probably sucks too much for me to get the PC version, so if I wanted to play with anyone that had it on PC... Yeah.
If I rent it I'll test that out and see if it can...

I have pc version, and this game is amazing. I'm level 6, though, since I got it last night.

I have the PC version; I bought the STEAM 4-pack with my friends, so we each paid $34.

The co-op and procedural weapon generation give the game value; they help give the game replay value and add a cool factor of having the badass gun that is the envy of your friends.

I don't think it would have been worth $50, but I didn't pay that, so it's cool.

Update: I am now level 16, playing as roland, with a sniper, revolver, and battle rifle. This game is the win.

I managed a ridiculous rate of fire with level 7 relentless and 5 hair trigger on a 14.something RoF repeater pistol

I'm specced similarly. I took all the skills in both Sniper and Gunslinger that don't suck (Bloodwing is already pretty good + he's boring to use), so yeah. Firing 20+ repeater pistol shots in under three second while having a 40% chance of firing two is pretty rapisty.

I've played up to lvl 15 or so with two different friends splitscreen and it's pretty neat. Having seen all the classes in action and played everyone but Roland, I'd have to say that Brick is the coolest.

RRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAARAAAAGGGAAAAAAGHHHRAAAR

Roland is harder to play than any other character, from what I've heard, I'm personally having some trouble around the area sledge is in. That robot is kickin my ass.

It's not that hard. I got to level 22 in one night with a friend. He's not much more difficult that brick or anything.
