Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
Sorry for the double post, but i just discovered something amazing. My dwarf came down with a part of the roof of my farming plot. He managed to get his right upper arm mangled. Next thing i notice, this same dwarf goes through phyllite like it were paper!

Read the succession game thread. Geti broke his spine, and then snapped it back into place.
To put it simply, dwarves are superhuman undead who will never cease to work as long as they've still got at least one functional limb.

To put it simply, dwarves are superdwarven undead who will never cease to work as long as they've still got at least one functional limb. Fix'd it. Also, that guy has now a mangled head due to a cave-in. Digged a 15x15 chamber in no time. Then he fell unconscious. Sleeps right now.

Lazy bums. Remove that dwarve's booze rations for a week. That'll teach him to sleep.

Mangled: to injure with deep disfiguring wounds by cutting, tearing, or crushing.
His head is mangled. He needs booze to survive.
Would you survive without booze if your head would be mangled? Would you?

Would you survive without booze if your head would be mangled? Would you? Well, the homeopathic dwarven doctors say that the best cure is water.

Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
It is a bit odd how you can make booze without water, turn booze into food, and live without water... until they get a medium wound on their hand, after which they need to sleep and have people bring water to them.
I alse recently had a miner get permanantly flying from a cave-in, and now he's possessed... looks like no more moods for me.
I'm setting up a battle arena over a pit of lava. I've also managed to dam a brook (after only flooding half my fortress!), and have a (mostly crippled by nervous sparring injuries) army all clad in full adamantine plate (I cheated... but one did manage to kill a dragon in only a few seconds, taking no damage. Luckily the dragon only fire'd when it was over the mountainy area of my land).

Natti wrote: dwarves are superdwarven This is technically incorrect English, because it implies that all dwarves are better than dwarves. On the subject of water, very happy thing I found a while back concerning seaside maps. If you build a well over saline aquifer water (not sure about the sea, entirely possible though) you get freshwater at the top. Way easier than using pumps for desalination, and stops you from having to deconstruct the dehydrated resting dwarf's bed all the time.

Tweak doesn't work for me, and I don't have the patience to make megabuildings from scratch. This is unfortunate.
But there's plenty of fun to have with cages and pits.

Re: Dwarf Fortress - It's about time there's a thread
Currently I'm playing as a modded human civ called the longswords, testing the playablity of the factions in a large scale modding project. It was 0247hrs at the time of writing this, so no big issues Problems arose however, when the Death Elves (elves with less crapness, slavery and steel weapons) sent a 23 elve ambush against my fort in the winter of year 1 (!!!). I had 3 military at this point, and they died in the first 5 seconds (wrestlers vs swords, gg) but I managed to keep 4 alive by leading the bastards through traps and fighting with my woodcutter (god axes are a lifesaver). Eventually, all were dead, my population dropped from 32 to 4 in 6 minutes and industry stopped. To top it off, a minute after the ambush was over (I'm dreading the inevitable seige) my woodcutter flipped out and cut one of his relieved comrades to pieces. Great. More mess. Migrants have arrived, but it's bedtime, they brought spring with them, and an autosave. Tomorrow there will be a _lot_ of hauling to do. Some of you might be noticing some of the names from Arne's skeleton wars project. It's intentional.

Just so you know, I think I've discovered the ultimate DF challenge, and so far I've survived. Let me explain:
NO FOOD NO ITEMS NO TOOLS NO BOOZE NO WATER FREEZING MOUNTAIN RANGE TERRIFYING BIOME NO DEPOT NO HUMANS NO ELVES HFS NO STARTING SEVEN ONE DWARF ONLY FINAL DESTINATION.
