Am I the only one who doesnt understand how to play dwarf fortress? If so, lol

You have to spend like a day learning the basics, then it will all fall into place.

I know, it's crazy overwhelming, but trust me. Follow the tutorial I posted, it's designed for someone who has NEVER played DF before in their life.

I just started up a random embark, then built fiddled around with the controls until the 'd' menu came up.
Mine/Chop, Build, Plant, Brew, Create, Cook, Trade, Struggle to find a place to put all your (narrow cave spider silk sock)s, Lose your hunter and 2 haulers to a Werewolf, Die in a fiery blaze as fire demons overwhelm your Champion wrestlers and proceed to blow up your booze.

QQ, read up before you play an involved game game. Its like those guys who go into CC thinking it'll play like soldat.

I love DF, but DF doesn't love me.

Hey Hey Hey Geti Dont be hating, I was confused, and the wiki wasnt that helpful. You don't need to be so high and mighty about the fact that im a little nooblet.

I figured out how to play df the old fashioned way. I opened the game, and started playing. I still don't know much, though, I haven't figured out how to make any kind of forge, so I'm limited to statues and engravings as sources of income.

Didn't mean to be condescending, it just seemed as though you quit as soon as you noticed it was using text as the display. Stick with it.

B > Scroll around for Forges (E IIRC) > Wood Furnace & Smelter & Metalsmiths.
Wood Furnace for Wood > Coal
Smelter for Ore + Coal > Bars
MEtalsmiths (Workshop) for Bars + Coal > Items

Actually, I'm in the same boat as Benpasko.
The only thing that I had to find out about was the job system.
If you don't know that there are jobs in this game, your first WTF moment lasts for days. until you find the "d" key.

no, until you find the v, p, and l keys over a unit in that order, or use the unit list for better reach. Seriously, labours ♥♥♥♥ me over till I read somewhere about them. Insta-facepalm.

Finally Got a working fortress with nice soil on the top, reading off that amazingly useful guide Hyper gave me,
2 level fort with all he basics, no goobies yet thank god, and still the dwarves you start off with. Wish me luck!
