Re: Minecraft Infdev succession
Or, you know, just have a semi-large region made for multiplayer combat. Cuz you know, bad stuff would happen when one team is on and another is off.

We could play for an hour or two straight and decide who wins based off of that.

Re: Minecraft Infdev succession
I guess that could work.
But there would have to be a rule that goes something like "Don't destroy something if it has ____ near/around/on it".

Why? It would be war. If we want to build stuff it would be on a different server. Or we could make a little arena out of admin blocks.

Re: Minecraft Infdev succession
If I'm going to be hosting it, there will be peaceful zones and "wilderness" zones. Anybody found in the wilderness zone is fair game, while people in peaceful zones must consent to nonagressive living. Those found in violation of a peaceful zone will be banned for as long as I (or if I appoint other ops) see fit. Peaceful zones would be towns, active mines, and the like. Abandoned mines would be real cool for combat EDIT: To clarify, a town/active mine NEED NOT be classified as a peaceful zone. If you so desired you could make a town in the middle of a wilderness zone and live on the edge. EDIT2: Also I imagine if the residents of a town agreed to it, we could shift the peaceful flag off of a town and perform a siege/invasion. It's really up to you guys, though my house/complex will always be considered a peaceful zone with only supervised skirmishes and dueling allowed in the courtyard.

No enemy can start a fire right now.
It would be solid stone if I were worried about fire, and eventually I plan to build a large structure out of obsidian.

Reminds me of runescape. *shudder*
Sounds like a good way to do it, however.

Re: Minecraft Infdev succession
How are peaceful zones going to be delineated? If a wilderness cavern ends up connecting into a peaceful mine/cave, then we will need to post signs or something.
Maybe peaceful zones will only be towns and such, so we can mark them with a few signs and some other decoration?
A posted map would help tell people where they can and can't blow ♥♥♥♥ up, but it might also ruin exploration and such.

Re: Minecraft Infdev succession
Peaceful caverns and such will have either signs or doorways posted into caverns that are not explored yet (and unexplored caverns are by default wilderness), or doorways into caverns that are explored but are chosen to be arenas or mob-free wilderness zones.
Peaceful zones will be enclosed in some sort of wall, probably stone, or with a trench or something like that. It won't be guesswork, it'll be pretty obvious. Probably an obelisk to the Great Goddess in the more-or-less center of it.
If we need a map it'll be pretty ambiguous so people can get lost (muaha!), like one of them pirate maps with about five landmarks on it.

Re: Minecraft Infdev succession
I'd rather not be killed at random while gathering wood or other materials. I'd rather have designated wilderness areas than designated peaceful areas.

We aren't allowed to build where we spawn. Thats a good rule. You must then proceed to find enemy settlements.Using land marks

MLC : The peaceful areas will be large enough for orchards, I guarantee it. I nearly had a heart attack when I found this, thank god I have a habit of jumping over every gap in the floor of caves.

Do not drop sand into it. Do not jump into it. Please cover up your infinite holes before walking away, have a good day!

Re: Minecraft Infdev succession
I am considering using a bucket of water and riding the water down to see where it goes.
Destroying magma isn't an issue, since these caves have tons.
