Very well, then, let's get this thing runnin'. Pick your dwarves' names and skills, and 200 points max of equipment. Remember, it's first come, first served, so don't waste any time. Also go on discussing things like fortress name/location, if we should bring an anvil, that kind of stuff. Meanwhile, I'll be busy shamelessly ripping 90% of the rules from the SparkGear thread.

Strike the earth!

I'd probably mess everything up, but still wiling to do it.

-edit-

Ninja'd nyeh.

Miner named Foil would suit me well.

Not sure about the anvil. If the map has an aquifer it'd be more useful to bring more food, booze and dogs.

Before I go off half-cocked, what exactly is going on? Who's starting, or are we just preparing the starting conditions in text?

200pts of equipment = no anvil. They cost 1k alone.
A battleaxe is 300. I see no reason for such a small allowance.
I'd make a contribution to the construction of fortifications/towers/whatnot and military stuff. If we do the 24hour thing, I've got time this week for an hour or so of building tonight. just keep it moving, use this thread, make another if it gets too cluttered, call it when you want to play and post the results within a day.

Eh, for now, we are just setting the basics up. I was thinking about starting tomorrow, since I'll probably not have access to a computer on wednesday. Just say the day you want to play on.

Also, Geti, I think you might be right. Gonna check how much embark points we will have and come up with a better limit.

I suppose the most basic step is deciding on a location. I'll go generate a world and edit with the details, we can get started figuring out where to embark.

I've already taken care of that part. I have this world called Stokosluzat, it's my personal favorite. Even being a completely random worldgen, it's got pretty much every kind of biome, a bunch of volcanoes, rivers of all sizes from brook to major, a couple nice oceans, and a dwarven civilization with an elf as king. I'll put some pics of it up if you want.

Crap, and I was hoping I wasn't generating this world for nothing
4000 years of history, I set, and 70% megabeast death cutoff (same dimensions and climate settings as LARGE maps).
Been generating for a good ten minutes or so, and it's only on year 400!

I DEMAND AN EVIL MOUNTAIN RANGE WITH AN HFS AND MAGMA. Also I wish to be an axedwarf hunter named Lobos if it isn't too much work.

Ok, here are the rules:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEH RULEZ

-This is a Bloodline type game. It will run in the following format: Every turn lasts exactly 24 hours, regardless of how much time has passed in game time. The save MUST be uploaded by then, or the turn is forfeit, the next player defaults to the previous save and the dwarf of the player who failed to upload will be impaled with a *(-Tower-Cap Upright Spike Trap-)* decorated with the bones of any evil animal available (preferentially carp or elephants). Twice. As soon as the save is uploaded, the next player will have a 12-hour interval to download the save. As soon as that is done, such player's turn will start, and he/she *MUST* make a post stating that the save has been downloaded, for recordkeeping and planning purposes.

-When you sign up, please state which day you want, so that it suits your schedule. Anyone may take any free turn, but please do not reserve more than one turn at a time. Once you have completed your turn you may reserve another if there are free slots.

- You are pretty much free to do whatever you want with the fortress during your turn, but try not to kill everyone or in any other way render the fortress unplayable, or we will have to revert to the previous save.

- Savescumming is permitted, but frowned upon.

- After your turn ends, it is good practice to post a log of what you did in-game (preferably in good old DF logbook style) so that the next players aren't thrown in completely unaware of what to expect.

- It would also be good to avoid making fortresses completely sealed-off from the outside world, as gobbo sieges are totally not fun if they can't attack you. i.e. try to always leave your front door open, except if it is begginning to flood with magma or whatnot.

- Dorfing is on a first come, first served basis.

- Upon embark, each player will have a 300-point limit as to their dwarves' skill/equip sets, but if the group chooses to bring an anvil along, the limit will be reduced to 150. (Really bad, I know, but it's the only way, I checked with a calculator. )

And that's it, I guess. Any doubts/suggestions, feel free to ask.

rather than 2000hrs GMT I'd prefer it to be within 12 hours of claiming the save. so if you want it on wednesday in your afternoon and someone wants it that night (metaphorically speaking) you can hand it in and there's no issues. just book a time frame, it works better.
Anywho, for my dwarf I'd like the expedition leader skills (ie appraiser, judge of intent at least 3 each), to be set up to gain maximum accuracy in my office asap and to spend the remainder of my dwarf points on wrestler and swimmer equally so I can be backup at defense and not drown. food and booze can be bought with my remaining points, at your leisure. should be about 92 points of food.
i vote no anvil, they're easy as piss to trade for once you start cooking.
if i could have tomorrow from 0800-1100hrs GMT+12 that would be pretty cool, I'd like to set some stuff up. I vote for a haunted+ area preferably with no aquifer and a shitton of trees. I like a good wood economy for building water towers, guard towers and houses above ground.

heres a 5x5 tower design I'm planning to stick on either side of the gate btw:

any addendums/edits would be nice, but i find that these work well if you assign a squad of 8 to each, you can hole up for a whole season if you arrange for wells to be built in the food store area in case of injury and stock up intelligently.
thoughts?

Oh deity I finally generated that map. 3000 years of history, erosion, and conflict.

I just realized that this is entirely impractical for play. It's 23 meg compressed

EDIT: I'll take whatever timeslot is next, as long as it's in the evening EST (4-9pm begin). I want to build >:D

Very well then. If you're OK with it, Duh, your turn starts tomorrow, february 23, 2010, at 10pm GMT, that is 7pm BRT and 5pm EST. The save must then be posted until february 24, 2010, 10pm GMT, 7pm BRT, 5pm EST. Following Geti's suggestion he following player must grab the save until february 25, 2010, 10am GMT (calculate the other timezones yourself. ), or his/her turn will be skipped. If stuff goes according to plan, that player must also post the save within a 24-hour limit, starting from when they downloaded the save, and so on.

And re-read the rules, people, I'll update them now too.

Also, my turn starts now, 'cause I'm the fortress starter, so I get that kinda privilege. :3

Prepare yourselves for the journey to...

MonomFath. (Pics to come soon.)

Can I have a dwarf named after me? I want to be a fisherdwarf named John the Shrubber.. I would sign up, but I fail miserably at DF.
