Re: D&D and such
So my party got killed by a bear. I did it as a test to see if they were actually paying attention to the rules and what they could do, and keeping track of their inventory. A level 6 bear versus 3 level 3 characters shouldn't be difficult, especially when they could deal something like 50 damage a round to it if they used their exploits wisely. They didn't. They didn't keep track of their potions, either. Right now I'm debating whether to have their characters live on through a plot twist or not, since they obviously weren't invested enough to actually figure out what they were doing. Thoughts? Manticore if you even say something with lol or first time or anything of that kind in it, I will never forgive you

Start again, but make it a little easier and hope they learned from it.

Re: D&D and such
doing a plot twist to make them come back will make them think that it doesnt matter if they die. also if theyre making new charecters dont let them be the same class as they were before.(and or race if you feel like it)

Re: D&D and such
Yeah, I think my problem was that I didn't punish them enough for previous failures (one of them was complaining that he couldn't find any of his rogue's exploits in the 3.5 handbook; he kept on deleting the 4th edition version no matter how many times I told him to keep it because he forgot) and so they ended up basically failing. This time, they're making their own goddamned characters. And this time, I'll be ♥♥♥♥ if I take the time to make an engaging and unique setting. ♥♥♥♥ that.

Re: D&D and such
Quote: Prepare all of your spell slots with Energy Substituted (electricity or sonic), Born of Three Thunders, Flash Frost Locate City spells. Save all of your 4th-level slots for Lesser Globe of Invulnerability. Cast LGoI so you'll be immune to the havoc you'll be causing. Now grab some ice from the freezer and cast Locate City. Because of Snowcasting, it gets the [cold] subtype, but because of Energy substitution, it instead has either the [electricity] or [sonic] subtype. Flash Frost makes it deal 2 cold damage to everyone in the area, which then gets converted to 2 electricity or sonic damage. Born of Three Thunders makes that 1 electricity and 1 sonic, and forces a Fortitude save against being stunned and forces a Reflex save against being knocked prone. Explosive Spell only affects spells that force a Reflex save, so we've got that covered.
Locate City affects a 10-mile/level radius, centered on you. At caster level 7th, that's a 70-mile radius, or a 369,600-foot radius. So you'll be doing 1 electricity damage and 1 sonic damage. Anyone who fails both the Fortitude save and the Reflex save will be pushed to the nearest edge of the area, taking 1d6 damage for every 10 feet moved. That's going to be a very forceful and painful trip indeed.
Once you cast it, all structures in a 70-mile radius will get utterly destroyed, and approximately half the population will fail their saves and violently get killed. ... Would this work?

Re: D&D and such
Hey, the DM did say it wasn't good. It's a gazebo! Considering some of the other stupid monsters in D&D, I'd say that it's perfectly reasonable to shoot it.

Re: D&D and such
true their are many stupid monsters in dnd. ive gone with the good ol dm tradition of making up creatures. its actually pretty decent because you can just make up a creature that fits with the story AND allows you to easily scale up difficulty.(and saves you from leafing throught the monster manual for hours finding a creature that should be put in)
