What is an XCube, why does it need to be smuggled, and why southwest europe? Unless telling us means that we'll have to testify against you if you get caught.

Post Re: The legacy of Fima: DF Succession Game
As control of the fortress is passed onto me, I notice both the scarcity of jobs and the peasant waltzing around with nothing to do. I promptly select him for our fishing ranks.
One of our developing wrestlers dies shortly after whilst sparring with a macedwarf, which sucks quite a lot.
I deal with some of the nobles mundane requirements, giving some of them the honorary founder's rooms.

I begin preparing more coffins for the dead, and am astounded when i see the amassed wealth in the past dwarf weasel "doombringer" itebtangak's tomb. He must have been important to warrant that much gold.
[at this point the framerate of 36 was pissing me off]
I allocate many cages to be placed to control some of the chaos in our hallways.

I suggest that we should consider trading many of these animals, we have almost 200.
Our miners manage to collapse during an oversight in a ramping project.

I am pleased at the novelty of a smoothing project to the northeast of the sparring grounds. Bravo, whoever commissioned it!

As we have no justice services at all, i mine out an area and prepare it for such purposes.
The countess, incidentally has had a baby girl. I'm taking bets on how long it takes to be trampled in the hallways.

The farms need irrigating, however i almost flood the main hall whilst not overseeing the activity properly. Close call, though one of the food stores is muddy now, and I'm considering making a grated area for draining to prevent irrigation oversights again.

Spring arrives
It brings with it a warning of war from the elves.

After a period of ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR SO LONG an ambush arrives, and a kitten dies from running into something.
And then another does. and then an elven caravan arrives. As such, there are 3 enemies entering our territory!

our champion kills EVERY GOBLIN IN THE FIRST AMBUSH, then runs down a kill into a third one, dismembers most of them (with the help of a few random militia), whilst one manages to scramble away up the mountain. A spear is flung through 3 more goblins as one of their wrestlers is torn apart. The last goblin decides to risk grappling with our champion and is thrown so hard into a wall that he explodes into 6 pieces. A kobold theif also has the misfortune of being spotted.
I send off an army of haulers to drag many goblin clothes to the depot. hopefully we can trade the elves for something uselful.
A snatcher is spotted, and makes a break for it. He outruns the military, sadly.
A second one arrives, however, and is thrown 34 tiles for his troubles.

[framerate is 28]

The Trading process is slow, because of all the hauling. In my frustration, i organise for anyone to trade, but take a haitus before the result is clear

bah, i cant bear the framerate anymore. a lot of organisation has been done, the jobs are still an absolute mess, it could be a good idea to cap FPS as high as you can and leave it running for a season so all the ♥♥♥♥ hauling and cleaning and recaging and brewing and coffin, door and grate production is done, not to mention the moat that has been started. we should really work on directing the flow of enemies at one or two points on the fortress that we can fortify.
oh yeah, craft production -> resource removal is back in swing.

Three things:

Number one - Since Geti has finished his turn and no-one's claimed the following one, I'm assigning myself to it. Alenth, you can get the following one (fryday), how about that?

Number two - This madness is an Xcube 364:

Image

Yes, a 360, a N64 and a Wii running on Gamecube controllers, all shoved inside two Xbox cases. A completely unnecessary, foolish and ugly casemod. I'm so proud of it! :P

(You might notice that it is not a real cube. Well, problem is, I couldn't get hold of a third Xbox case to put over it and correct the height, so you'll have to forgive me for that slight geometrical mismatch. )

I had to "smuggle" it because the total value of the components may or may not have surpassed really slightly the $500 limit for bringing foreign goods into Brazil. Even so, the whole thing was basically saying "Uh, no." when the 3-meter tall german dude at the customs office asked me "Do ye filthy smugglah' have a un' unnecessary, foolish and ugly casemod in yer luggage?" And that was it.
Also, I brought it from southwestern europe because, due to a series of unforeseen events that happened several years ago, I have now free lodgings in most of the nursery colleges in western Portugal. Don't ask.

Number three: I've just noticed that all mods, not just Duh, have receive the engineer badge. I'd thought that Data had hired Duh for his dev team. Areku = derp.

So as to clean up this point: Badge system is broken and nobody knows how to fix it because WJ is AWOL. Mods can change their own badges however they like, and I suspect weasel can change anybody's badge he likes.

Oh, I see then. And just to clear things up a bit more, I hope you've not found my surprise at your engineer-badging offensive. I was in no way questioning your modding skills, I was just surprised because I can't even remember how long it's been since Data made someone a dev. So yeah, no offence intended.

Hey, did you guys remember to turn partial print on?
It helps with the framerate massively.
Turn it on in the init folder in the data folder.

OK guys, I'm terribly sorry about this, but I think I'm gonna have to forfeit my turn. My computer has just gone haywire, and I can't play the game at more than one FPS on my laptop. So yeah, next turn is up for grabs.

The game is cursed. We must turn it into a Boatmurdered.

Uh, theoretically, it should be, but I haven't got any response from him yet, so I think yeah, it is kinda up for grabs.

EDIT: OK, so it seems nobody is interested in taking the next turn. So, do we wait until someone volunteers, start a new fortress out of scratch or just give up completely?

Ha, well if we start another one (I'm not against that) make the embark area smaller (maybe 3x3 or 4x4) for my poor laptop :P
I just don't have enough time at the moment. Someone PM alenth and get this moving again.

But the current fortress's area is already 4x4. Oh well, gonna try 3x3 this time. And if we are gonna start a new game, what about the location? I was thinking of a terrifying desert with magma and a river, or maybe an evil freezing ocean. (Truth be told, I think the current fortress has gone a bit beyond the limit of unplayability, due to the crazy amount of coins being hauled around, the lack of rooms and facilities, the insane amount of dwarves and the fact that pretty much anything takes ages to be done because everyone's on break. )

Also, I've just turned partial print on in my laptop to see if I could get any more than 5 FPS in a 2x2 embark with a single dwarf, and then OMGWTF100FPSTHEDWARVESARESOINCREDIBLYFAST

On an unrelated sidenote, this is my post number 501.
