Re: WH40k discussion
Just bought one over ebay with five or so guys for about 10 quid. Pretty good if consider that a new one is almost twice as much.

Re: WH40k discussion
The game is pretty much a tabletop variant of an rts with added dice. And collecting an army purely because you like the miniatures is not unheard of. At all. In fact most players start out that way.
-edit-
Rhino mk2 for 14 quid and a vindicator upgrade for 4. Should I?

Dunno, I like the newer vindicators a lot more.
Btw, weren't the old upgrade kits made from metal? They could be bend, quite a bit.

Yep, it is. By the way, thanks for letting me know about that offer, I wanted a Vindi myself. Oh also, WIP pics: Please excuse my poor power weapon skills.

Re: WH40k discussion
Oh shut up Areku, that's a damn awesome model you got there. I'm still trying to figure out the parts you used to make that blade, care to help? The power weapon effect looks good enough, maybe if you started out with a metallic colour and then used a wash to make it blue, followed up with the lightning to make it look less flat? Also, yes Foil that's the new one. 12 pound rhinos in the house!

Re: WH40k discussion
Didn't manage to get one. Son of a ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥.
and to top it off the mk1 that I bought was marked as "spare", so it's really not in good condition. At all. At least I got a 10 man tactical with it.
-edit-
Now I need an opinion. I've got a 1750 point battle coming up and really have no idea for what the army list should be. It's going to be a series of missions with an obligatory HQ and two compulsory troops.
Since I want to use the ASOBR set as much as I can, in order to keep the monetary expense down I was considering the following:
3 Full tac squads with Rhinos (maybe trow in a Power fist on the sargents) = 615 (or 690 with the Power fists)
5 man termie squad in a Land raider Crusader = 450
5 man Assault Squad with a plasma pistol on the sargent = 115
The standard dreadnough = 105
and finally the captain = 100
This leaves me with 290 points to spare. To fill them out I was considering maybe another full tactical squad, just to keep the cost down.

Re: WH40k discussion
A specialist squad maybe? Like the devastators? You already have your elites maxed out, otherwise you could have used sternguards. I haven't heard anything bad about those yet. Droppods are a bit too expensive I think? They would be cool when combined with the assault squad. You could also turn the assault squad into vanguard vets if it isn't too late. Scouts or something maybe? The demolisher? A predator?
Also, it might be worth the money if you got some parts for your dreadnought, just arms. I never liked the orriginal setup. But on the other hand, it's pretty much your only anti-tank weapon.
Also, terminator captain from bits?

Re: WH40k discussion
The devastator squad sounds pretty good actually. And I could get away with using the spare weapons floating around my bits box and would pretty much solve the points problem. Furthermore they have ridiculous range, so they shouldn't need a transport.
Droppods never really made sense in my head. If you drop them near the battlegrounds you're basically offering a kill point from the get go and they can always scatter off the table, which, with my luck, wouldn't surprise me.
I've kind of been put off from getting arms for the dreadnought because it really isn't in scale with the standard one. Although I'd love smacking an assault cannon in there just for coolness points.
I really wanted a terminator chaplain, but no one seems to keep them in stock anymore. Also a vindicator, which I wanted to build from a rhino. The funny bit is that I wanted to get a couple of rhinos from bitsandkits this Saturday, but no, they had to put them on sale. God damn it.
And finally a question. DO you think one can get away with stuffing standard terminator powerfists on a "regular" marine"?

Re: WH40k discussion
Maart3n: Why thank you! The blade is basically the sword stormboy arm with the support rod cut off, and a wire or two added. Also, I'd love to have used blue washes on the blade, but I unfortunately forgot to buy them. @Foil: Devastators seem a sound choice, yeah. However, if you feel like it, you could always take a MoTF and another dread, so you get two lascannons. Actually, if you manage to free 15 points from your list, you can squeeze in another termie squad + MoTF! Regarding the termie PFs, no, I don't think they really fit the scale. You'd either have to make a beefed-up marine or use GK parts for it not to look outta place. EDIT: ALSO ALSO YEAH THIS: New necron unit leaks.

Re: WH40k discussion
Please apologize my lack of good manners, that ork looks pretty damn good. You're getting seriously good for someone who's only been at this for a few months.
Just bought myself a new batch of bits, namely three power fists, a storm shield, a thunder hammer, a lascannon and finally a mk3 helmet. This should be fun.

Re: WH40k discussion
Holy ♥♥♥♥ Areku, nice find, those newcrons look awesome.
@Foil: Droppods, and termi-teleporters, have exactly the purpose you just described; getting you're units down in the middle of the board to cause as much damage as they can. You see, a squad of 5 assault terminators who have to walk towards the enemy before they can smash them to bits will probably lose one or two guys. Which kinda sucks because those 2 terminators could have done a ton of damage. Now lets take the same 5 terminators and teleport them right into the fray(possibly with some scout bikes help.) These terminators will be where you need them without ever having taken a single shot from the enemy.
You are using assault squads, those guys aren't meant to last, they are meant to kill as much enemy units as they possibly can before they are finally killed.
Also, devastators are highly effective, just remember you're playing space marines and not space wolves. You can only target one unit per turn.(space wolf long fangs can split their fire) Which means you have to either create a mixed squad of anti-tank/anti-infantry and only use half of your squad properly per turn, or get a pure anti-tank/anti-infantry squad and focus attention on that kind of enemy. Anti-tank would be a big gamble, since not everybody brings tanks. But on the other hand, you have next to none. You could always just snipe dangerous units with lascannons.(no saves for targets with T4, aka terminators...)
