Double post for important informations.
I'm going to make some radical changes to the groups and map divisions later today, which will involve splitting the populace into two major groups. Decide which you'd like to be placed in and inform me, either the Creative players or the Survival players.
As you would expect, this involves whether or not you have the aid of /item.

The question here is: How do you prevent people with /item from going into PVP areas and wrecking everything. Something to consider.

In the time that I have between classes, here's a rough overview.
There is a plugin I'm going to be installing that not only restricts block placement but also movement and total map size. With that installed, I'm going to limit the map to a radius of 8000ish blocks (the long-ass portion of terrain I genned in the north is about 10000 long, for comparison) and split the area down the middle (invisibly so, you'll be notified if you've attempted to leave a zone with private chat messages).

On one side will be the Creative players, who will regain the privilege of /item but not /tp or /tphere (unless the plugin can restrict that to the region as well) and may do whatever they please on their side of the map. They may also claim specific regions for themselves to restrict others from destroying or modifying their structures.

On the other side, there will be the Survival players, who will not have the benefit of /item, and most definitely not /tp or /tphere. They will, however, have the benefit of claiming regions as well, with a predesignated area of terrain (likely 600 square or more depending on the thoughts of the people I talk to while making it) that is specifically for pvp, designated by me. In their own regions, players can enable or disable pvp as they wish, which is why I designated this side of the wall as "Survival" rather than "PvP".

You may switch sides at any time, but I will clear your inventory if you are going to the Survival side of things.

As far as policing, I will designate from each side people who will be local ops, who will retain the power to kick and ban (but on the survival side, not tp or tphere) and they may police as they wish. Whitty and myself remain the ultimate authorities, specifically in matters such as appointing and revoking op powers. Otherwise, at least I, will be mostly hands off. Direct major complaints or problems through to me, such as problems with configurations and privileges, or if you do not wish to be an op.

Feel free to point out any holes you might find in this plan, but so far, in my thoughts, it has seemed pretty waterproof.


EDIT: It occurs to me it might be fitting to do a map wipe as well. That, however, is up to you guys. It matters little to me, since making the two regions does not require any terrain to have been genned.

Is the PVP flagging going to be passive? For example, THOR is flagged for PVP, Hyperkultra is flagged PVP off. Both players are in the Survival zone. Even though HK is flagged off, is he still killable or is just a way for HK to say "I am not here to die, leave me be" and isn't actively enforced.

Also, this still brings up the question of "How do we define survival?" We are a map without mobs, so what constitutes Survival Sans PVP? Is it for people who just want to build using gathered materials? I just think it'll be silly for people to be in the PVP zone but never flagged as PVP. Why would they need to be in there and build in there if they had no plans to actually engage in PVP?

So, Survival is an /item-less area, working on the stuff in the land, and inside there is a defined PvPing area.
And people's individual claims can be PvP enabled.

Is there no way to set up the world as normal, but with the invisible barrier spreading as you explore, so anything West of it is Survival, and anything East is Creative?

I think once you get far enough away from the dividing point, it wont really matter what zone type you're in.

Also, if I understand this properly, all of the Survival Zone is PVP-enabled, but individual players can turn their flags on and off--although the point of that still escapes me because I can think of no reason to be there if you aren't.

Also, can you enter and exit PVP zones at will, because it would suck to be able to leave the PVP zone to store stuff/mine items so that they can't be ganked.

There are holes in this idea, I think.

Your statement is correct, mostly. It's not a person-by-person flag but an area flag. To answer your question, because people who wish to play "legit" tend to get annoyed if they see people play Creative right next door to them. Or at least, that's what I've observed from when we had WoM client players and non-WoM client players right nearby. If necessary, I can implement a strictly PvP zone where you cannot escape, for the hardcore PvP people that don't want their prey escaping to a safe zone (or stashing in said zone).

This isn't to say that you can't play legit in the Creative zone, but that there is a specific place for you in the Survival side of things if you want it, where nobody can use /item.

So anyway, I'll be implementing this now. I've gotten approximately five or so people to give me their positions, the undecided I will lump into the Creative side of things until otherwise notified.

I might also implement chat channels so that you can shut out the other side of things if you want.

EDIT: You know what, that's what I'll do. Three zones, one for Creative, one for Legit Creative, and one for PvP Survival.
Modify your requests for placement as necessary.

Also, to be entirely clear, this is going to take a while. Don't expect me to be completely done tonight, and maybe not even tomorrow. I'm going to have to redo all the user groups and permissions.

Duh said that there'll be three major zones, and if you attempt to leave without admin permission you'll be automatically tp'ed back into your zone, therefor you cannot just leave to save yourself like running into a safe house.

Please display good sportmanship by not using cheating.

It sounds like you can make /item usage zone-based. Is that true? Sounds phenomenal.
